Anguilla Vacation

My wife and I are planning a February vacation in Anguilla. We like "relaxed," hang out at the beach, wander about and meet the folks, good restaurants and no heavy night life or casinos. We keep hearing about Anguilla Great House, but are wide open to advice from you experienced Anguillaphiles. Also, all inclusive not quite our style but what's the story on Coccoloba?

Many Thanks,
Ted and Kathy
We stayed at AGH last year and loved it. It's on probably the prettiest beach on the island. It's family owned, the rooms were very large and very nice. The staff was the nicest we've met anywhere. It wasn't crowded when we were there, but there may be more people there in Feb. The food was good. I really can't think of a bad thing to say about it except make sure your a/c blows cold air. There was a ceiling fan and the a/c not working wasn't much of a problem. There was always a fantastic breeze as well. Anything else, email me.

We vacationed in Anguilla February, '98. It is a lovely island with lovely people. The beaches are wonderful. It is very quiet. No casinos. Not much nightlife. A lot of very good restaurants. We stayed at La Sirena, and thought it was very nice....especially if you want to "get away from it all."
Check out www.beachbum.ai He's got
some links to other places too, and
and Anguilla home page. My favorite
place was Shoal Bay, but we only went
for a day trip (actually we did two day trips to Anguilla, one on a catamaran).

Just got back from a wonderful week in Anguilla. The island is not visually beautiful like St. Barts or even St. Martin, but the incredibly wonderful people and beaches make up for that easily. We stayed in a private rental just off Upper Shoal Bay and loved the location. I do think the recommendation for Blue Waters was right on. Also the Carimar gets high marks. I like a private villa because we are the independent sort of folks, but that is just us. You will definitely want to rent a car so you can visit some beaches. Go to Shoal Bay and see Pressure King and meet as many of the local people that you can. They are just wonderful.

Also take a look at the Anguilla Online Tourist Guide at www.turq.com/anguilla.html. We stayed at a hotel on Upper Shoal Bay and can't imagine a more beautiful beach - the sand doesn't get any whiter and the water can't get any more turquiose! We too met Pressure King (yes that's really someone's name), and he directed us to JR. who runs a glass bottom boat. We took a fun ride on his boat and enjoyed seeing the island from the water. I'm envious, have a wonderful time!

Pressure King is famous! He is a real charmer and sort of the official booking agent for beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkel trips, etc. Jr's boat is equally famous, and he can take you to wonderful snorkling spots.
