Anguilla or St.Barts...Le Toiny,Carl Gustaf or Cap Juluca?
 

Planning a trip for 15 year anniversary and I can't decide between St Barts or Anguilla. <BR>I am also trying to get info on the above hotels at each island.....Has anybody been to both and help me decide Thank you!!! <BR> <BR>Why would you choose Anguilla over St BArts or vise versa?

Altho won't venture to compare but having researched the same, I might include Hotel St. Barth Isle de France in the mix only because it is beachfront with only 30 rooms! Despite the private pools and all at Carl Gustaf, I eliminated it because of the phrase "nearby beaches" and LeToiny because of the "15 minute drive to beaches." Maybe someday when I am done sampling all the beaches in the world, I will try some of those wonderful spots where you have to commute to the beach! Both sound absolutely lucious tho and unfortunately when on Anguilla I didn't want to leave the beach to check them out like I had planned to!!

If this is your first trip to either island, I would definitely choose St. Barths over Anguilla. The beaches in Anguilla are beautiful and the restaurants are wonderful but they cannot beat the overall atmosphere of St. Barths. Anguilla is flat and the inner part of the island is frankly, not very appealing to the eye. Anguilla is also SUPER laid back. <BR> <BR>I would describe St. Barths as Paris in the Caribbean. It has so much french charm and it also has wonderful restaurants and beaches, although they're not as long in length as Anguilla's beaches. St. Barths is mountainous and when driving around the island, around every turn is another beautiful vista. SB is laid back but not in the same way as Anguilla. Neither island has chain restaurants or hotels, high rises or casinos but St. Barths probably has a few more "night spots" than Anguilla. Hope this helps!

Definately pick St BArths...no comparison...

I have friends who have been to both Anguilla, Cap Juluca and St. Barts, Isle de France. They loved both, loved the beaches on anguilla, loved the restauarnts and red wine on St. Barts. <BR>They are returning to CJ but not sure if they would go back to ST. Barts. My neighborss vacation every Christmas with their kids at Carimar in Anguilla, have done so for many ,many years. They also wwent to ST.Barts in August, loved it too! so-it all depends. As for me i can do without the French, but each his own.

Both have great beaches and excellent restaurants. For atmosphere, though, there is no contest - St-Barth has it all over Anguilla. If I were going there on a honeymoon though, I'd pick Isle de France over Le Toiny (because of it's beach location), and both of them over Carl Gustaf (which is less quiet than either of the other two)

We have been to both St Barts (Le Toiny) and Anguilla (Malliouhana). <BR>Both are excellent choices. <BR>St Barts: Advantages--more things to do (shopping, beaches, water sports, restaurants) but not at night (dinner is your main entertainment). More beautiful views. <BR> Disadvantages--harder to get to (small plane flight from St Martin). You need to drive everywhere and driving can be "interesting" (until you are used to roads, hills etc). <BR>Anguilla: Advantages--more beaches that are walkable (long and flat). Hotels likely to be "on the beach". <BR>Quieter than SBH. Friendly people. Easier driving. Easier to get to (American Eagle direct from San Juan or Ferry from St Martin) <BR> Disadvantages--scenery not as nice. No shopping (go over to ST Martin for the day). Little night time entertainment. Quiet. <BR>Both have great restaurants. Slightly more expensive on Anguilla (dinner will run $100 to 200 per couple). <BR>You can't go wrong wither place.

We are planning a ten day trip to the Caribbean. Would you describe Le Toiny and St. Barth's as stuffy or prissy to use technical terms. We have stayed at Treasure Beach in Barbados, Plantation Beach Villas in Tobago, Biras Creek, Ocean Club in the Bahamas previously and have enjoyed them all. We are also considering Ladera and Four Seasons Nevis which I know are all very different. Thanks.

St. Bart's is upscale but I wouldn't describe it at all as stuffy or prissy. It's very classy in a French, European sort of way.

Dont believe all that bullshit about the stuffy french people.I had no problem and found most of the people friendly and helpful,especially whn I was spending money like a drunken sailor

Pick St. Barts. The Eden Rock Hotel is probably the most romantic anywhere. Great ownership and management. It's also closer to the beaches and restaurants than Le Toiny. Avoid Carl Gustaf.

Cap is crap when compared to Toiny.

Read my review on Le Toiny under Fodors. It is the finest possible place on earth. There is a wonderful beach in front of the hotel and a short walk downhill that is lovely for snorkelling. The best beach on the island is Saline, probably the best beach anywhere on earth. However it is awfully hard to leave your private villa at Le Toiny! Also everything in St. Barths and especially Le Toiny smells so good, so fresh, and so Proven&ccedil;al! We miss it every single day and we live in Brazil, a country with 8000 km of gorgeous beaches. Fromt he moment David, the GM, greats you at the front door of the great house, to arriving in your villa to cold champagne, fresh fois grois, a giant bouquet of tropical flowers and their special music playing on the CD, your first glimpse at the bedroom with the four poster ocean view bed.....and they never call the room! Only communicate with you by fax......heaven.....

Le Toiny all the way! Beautiful island, beautiful resort!!

Liz, <BR><BR>What else would one expect for $1400 per night in winter and $720 per night starting in April...champagne nights and caviar dreams....I guess so at those prices!!!!!!!!!
