Anguilla or Grenada for R&R?
 

Have Rendezvous Bay in Anguilla booked for next May for 9 nites, but am also now considering Flamboyant Hotel, Grenada. My husband and I are just looking for a beautiful beach to relax on, where we can veg out staring at the sea, read some good books, maybe go on a sunset sail. Which would you recommend for this and what are your reasons?

Anguilla is a great place to veg, but part of its appeal is the wonderful food at many great restaurants and the many beautiful beaches so it would be kind of a shame to not visit other places on the island.

I didn't literally mean that we don't intend to get our butts out of the beach chair at the hotel.

I spent 2 weeks at RBH in April of 2003.

I think it would be difficult to find a beach as beautiful as Rendezvous. The manager, Bart, and his staff are exceptional. Your interests are much the same as mine ;-)....and it is a grwat place for staring and reading !

And since you are willing to get your butts off the beach chairs, the restaurant options are just an added bonus !

I have not been to Grenada..but I think most will agree that if the beach is important, Anguilla is the place !

I am just one of those people, I guess, who always thinks there might be something better out there. RBH looks great, Bart has been so accomodating in my email correspondence with him, and the beach looks fantastic. So why am I even thinking of going someplace else? I'm sure Grenada is wonderful and maybe on the trip after this next one....but I think we will stick to RBH for next May's trip. Thanks for your responses, everyone.

I've been to both Grenada and Anguilla, and either would be great for what you are looking for.

Anguilla has prettier beaches, but Grand Anse is very nice too.
(But, be aware that the vendors there can be rather aggressive and not conducive to relaxation in some cases.)

Since they are so topographically-different from each other, I'd say that if you are mostly interested in s quiet gorgeous beach with great dining and a few diversions, choose Anguilla.

If you want to see a gorgeous island with lots of natural beauty in addition to your beach time, choose Grenada.

Both islands have extremely friendly locals who will go out their way to be helpful.

It sounds to me like you are looking for a restful - as opposed to active vacation - and based on what you have asked for, I think Anguilla might fit the bill better.

Having been to both islands, my vote would be Grenada. It is a much more beautiful and interesting island. Lovely locals and wonderful restaurants.

I have also been to both and have stayed at the Flamboyant in Grenada and I was much more impressed with Grenada overall as the beach in Angulla is sensational -no question...there wasn't all that much more to do - it appeared pretty flat and is much smaller than Grenada with fewer people...Grenada posesses a fabulous West Indian culture, the people are also very kind Grand Anse beach is beautiful and to be at the Flamboyant puts you away from the vendors - I found they were worn out or sold out by the time the got to us an often just vegged out themselves with a feeble attempt at selling - more often than not they were open to friendly chatter about the island and were very informative and deeply kind.

My vote - Grenada!

Anguilla is the place for total relaxation and good food.

We have been to both and they are incredibly different. Grenada is very scenic, lush, green with wonderful accomodations and restaurants. The same applies for Anguilla regarding accomodations and eating establishments but it is very dry, flat and not as scenic. Although, the beaches are incredible!

We've made our flight reservations so Anguilla it is. Grenada is high on our list for the following year's Caribbean vacation. Thank you for all your responses.
