Anguilla - How much spending $$$?

My husband and I are going to Cap Juluca, Anguilla soon. Our stay includes breakfast and 4 dinners at Cap, which means lunch and 3 dinners. We will definately be going to Altamars, Straw Hat, mangos and Scilly cay. We've never been here, just did my research
BUT need to know how much spending money for lunches dinners drinks and such.
Thank you!!

Bring a Platinum card and lots of traveler's checks. (You can cash or deposit them when you get back if you don't use them all.)
Anguilla is one of the most expensive (and best) islands for food.
We spent $250.00 for two for lunch at Scilly Cay.
Dinner for two with drinks runs $150+ at most places - wine or champagne adds more. There are places where you can eat for less, but even they are still expensive compared to most of the other islands.

FYI - you can charge your Scilly Cay meal back to the room at Cap Juluca if you don't want to take too much cash off the resort. How's that for service!!?

We didn't use cash except for tips at the hotel, the $20 temporary drivers license, and taxis (It's $20 each way to and from the airport (without tip). I think it also cost us $20 to take a taxi to Mangos one night too (less than 2 miles from the resort!) - taxis are expensive.

I think $250 is a lot to have spent at Scilly - must have been enjoying the rum punches!!! My husband and I had lunch and drinks for closer to $150. I agree that dinners will run you at least $150 for 2.

If you drive to Scilly Cay, stop at Shoal Bay first to see the fabulous, almost deserted beach and maybe have a beer - beers there are $2 instead of the typical $4.50/$5 everywhere else!

See other postings about restaurants/Cap. I just got back from Cap a few weeks ago and posted a lot of info on food there!

Enjoy - wish I was heading back with you - it's probably one of the best vacations I've ever had.

Hi Caroline. My husband and me dined at Altamers and it cost $175 for the two, including one drink each and dessert (excluding tip and tax). Scilly Cay for lunch is about $100 (I think it is over-rated, and would opt for a rib lunch at Ernies at Shoal Bay). To be on the safe side, I would bring $600-$700 for food, drinks, bottled water, etc. More than likely you will bring some money home, but better to be safe than sorry. If you rent a car, lunch can be had at some of the local places for much less than at the more touristy ones. Same goes for dinner. There is a fantastic Mom and Pop BBQ dinner (Th, Fr & Sat. nights only), across from a little grocery store just up the road from the Carimar Beach Club. Have a wonderful trip.

Just returned from 10 days at Cap. Dinner was $175-$250 at all the restaurants you mentioned. But keep in mind they all take major credit cards so a ton of cash isn't necessary.

Just returned from 12 days a Cap Juluca. You will love it! Since you only have 3 dinners and the food is so good I would skip Mangos. We were very disappointed. The food was good, not great and the service was horrible. Go to Olivers instead. We were sorry that we missed it, we heard from everyone that the food and service was excellent. Dinner at Altamers was $135.00 and well worth it. The ambience and service were excellent. Scilly Cay is very overated. Lunch was $130.00 and just OK. If you want good food and not very expensive eat at Tasty's and E's Oven. Excellent cuisine and service. The food is also excellent at Cap. We had four dinners also and ate 1 at George's, 1 at Pimms's and 2 at Kemias. We ate most of our lunches at George's and it ran approx. $50.00, but we always had at least one drink. The most expensive item for lunch is the crayfish and it's $38.00 and well worth it. Also try Uncle Ernies on Shoal Bay for lunch, beautiful beach, great snorkling and excellent food. The rum punches were $2.00. They are $7.50 are Cap. We heard mixed reviews re: Straw Hat. I guess it depends on what you order. The only cash we used was for an addtional tip and lunch at Uncle Ernies. 15% is added to every check. If the service was exceptional (which is was in most restaurants) we left an extra 5%. We used a credit card for everything else. If you want more information, feel free to e-mail me. We are hooked on Anguilla and can't wait to return!
