Anguilla Honeymoon in June
After exploring just about every island in the Caribbean, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on Anguilla. I love the idea of a quiet island with great dining options, and the opportunity to take day trips. I really liked the idea of St. Barts, but the first comment is always how expensive St. Barts is.
Anyway, my fiance and I are in our mid-30s and are planning on a 7-10 day honeymoon. We like quiet, relazing nights but also like going out and grabbing some drinks and catching some live music (or just people watching). I'm conflicted between Cap Juluca and the Viceroy --- any suggestions? My concern with Cap Juluca is that maybe the room will be a little too dated (based on prior reviews), but I love the idea of being beachfront. Would splitting the two hotels be a bad idea? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Viceroy IMO is beautiful but modern and kind of cold architecture for the island. Cap is walk out to the most beautiful beach on the island, more private and personal. Stay at Cap and go to Viceroy for drinks.
I would also recommend restaurants: Veya, Dolce Vita, AXA Seafood House, Straw Hat E's Oven. Blanchard's can be hit or miss. Pumphouse,Elvis' Beach Bar and Dune Preserve for drinks and music (pumhouse has good food too).
Malli's opening has been delayed, but should/may be open by next June

Frankly, I think Anguilla can be just as expensive as St Barths, so if there's something special about SBH and it's the price tag holding you back, you might want to reconsider. Even islands like Anguilla and St Barths can be done on a budget. And if you're American, don't forget the Euro/dollar conversion.
t I'd advise you to stay away from Malliouhana until it gets its opening kinks worked out. Once it does that and proves that it's once more one of the Grandes Dames of the Caribbean, though, no worries. Whether that means June or not is anybody's guess. One month ago, the resort looked nowhere near opening. They hadn't even starting constructing the main restaurant.
I agree with beachkeen's suggestions for dinner -- those places are all pretty solid (I've not been to AXA Seafood House yet, fwiw). If being on the beach is the most important thing to you, I'd strongly suggest Cap. If modern and stylish furnishings are of utmost importance, then choose Viceroy. They are two radically different styles of resorts and neither one does everything well. Each one has strengths and serious weaknesses.
If you want to cast your net a bit more widely, you could also consider Frangipani, which is on Meads Bay. Small, intimate hotel with good service, furnishings more recently updated than Cap's, and some rooms are just steps from the beach. You don't mention your budget, but there are some villas that are comparable in price to Viceroy's and Cap Juluca's rates -- those might be the best way to go for a honeymoon if you value privacy.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Picante, but there are so many wonderful restaurants.
Emily-AXA Seafood house is fantastic. And the next time you go to Dolce Vita, please try the lasagna (although I adore the gnocchi and the egglantparm too). BTW, I love your blog, spend hours getting sidetracked with all the links

I was disappointed to learn that AXA Seafood House would be closed all summer for the off season. I understand why, since it's got to be outrageously expensive to fly everything in fresh every day. Maybe one of these days it'll be open when we're on the island!

I have stayed at both Cap Jaluca and the viceroy. Loved both for different reasons. Cap is a perfect honeymoon spot bc of the privacy. You have a portion of the beach all to yourself pretty much as each villa only has a small number of rooms and your area is pretty much in front of your villa. The beach at Cap is the prettiest i have ever seen. Period. The rooms are a little dated though, and I stayed there 7 years ago, so add 7 years to that, unless they have been renovated since. Service wonderful, everything wonderful, rooms are a little dated.
Viceroy is spectacular- perhaps one of the nicest hotels at which I have every stayed, and I have stayed at some nice hotels! The rooms are gorgeous and modern but not too much so. the hotel is expansive , lots of different buildings. Gorgeous spa. Food at the hotel was spectacular. we ate all over the island and the food at the hotel was as good as it gets. The only drawback with Voceroy is the beach isn't as gorgeous as cap's. It's still beautiful, but it's not Maunday's Bay.
If you're going for a week, I might just split it up if you do't mind moving hotels. I feel personally that i would choose cap for a honeymoon (Not too many families at cap when we went) and Viceroy for everything else. It really depends on which means more to you.
