Anguilla for Christmas?

Trying to decide on a location for vacation over Christmas. Anguilla has been high on my list for awhile now, but I'm concerned that the things that draw me to it (uncrowded beaches, laid back vibe) will be lost because of timing. If you have been during Christmas holidays, what was your experience? I know it's the most expensive time to visit, but I'm more concerned about crowds.

About us: mid-40s, no kids, plan to spend most of our time relaxing on the beach, enjoying casual dining and beach bars, a few excursions to upscale dining, a few meals at home, some live local music, maybe a day excursion.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I'm sure you already know the answer - you are planning to travel during the busiest week of the year - the island definitely will have more people than if you visited during a non-holiday period. That's doesn't mean it will be overrun with tourists but rather you won't find lots of seclusion. Anguilla is a quiet island, even during peak times, so you'll still be able to relax and enjoy yourself.

Expect to see near full restaurants, especially at dinner and more people enjoying themselves at the various beach bars. Best to call ahead for reservations when you want to enjoy those "upscale" dinners.

It's almost impossible for Anguilla to be overrun with tourists as there are no mega-resorts nor that many accommodations in general. Expect 100% occupancy everywhere and a little tougher time getting reservations for dinner but otherwise I doubt you'll find the island crowded in the true sense of the word. You'll encounter the most kids at Cuisinart and probably Viceroy if that matters to you.

Thanks for the input. I think we are gonna go for it. Seems like "crowded" on Anguilla will still be quite manageable.

The only place I can think of that might be a little crowded would be Shoal Bay East, especially if there are a lot of day-trippers from St. Martin. But again, it will not be crowded as in towel to towel people.

Enjoy Anguilla. Is this your first trip to the island?

Sharona - Yes, it's my first trip to anywhere in the Caribbean, and I am beyond excited.
