Anguilla advice
We'll be house guests next March for a week
in Anguilla/host is resort chef. Any insider tips (restaurant/bar/off-beat discoveries) welcomed. Thanks in advance. |
I'm sure your chef friend will be a great help! There are nearly 80 restaurants on the island & many of them are just superb. The Pumphouse & Johnno's are loads of fun for late night music & dancing (also the Dune is usually in full swing in March). Locally-owned restaurants such as Tasty's & E's Oven are very reasonable & very good. Trattoria has a beautiful setting for lunch & chaise lounges under palm trees for your use if you eat there. Unusual: try the seafood pizza at the Corner Bar or Picante's, a Mexican restaurant with a lot of seafood entrees. High end: Mango's, Hibernia (very unusual menu), Altamer. Scilly Cay, Smitty's or Palm Grove for lobster on the beach.

Lucky you, it should be a wonderful experience. I have enjoyed your posts/knowledge about Jamaica and other islands. You do tempt me to visit Treasure Beach.
Anyhow Anguilla is such a small island, its so easy to explore all. I would suggest you visit cariibean on line, as there are lots of "experts"--and opinions. My personal favorites are long lazy lunches--at Trattoria Tramonto, Cedar Grove, Hibernia, Altamer. Visit Bankies Dune Preserve, go to Nat's Palm Grove, watch a sunset at Malliouhana, have ribs at Smokeys, music at The Pumphouse on Friday nights, Picante's great lime chicken, try the Lobster salad at Tasty's, go to Smittys for lobster, Georges for the location, view, Smokeys at the Cove. I am sure others will add their expertise! One of the new things on my list will be to go to the Pyrat rum factory-- I also would pick up a copy of "A Trip to the Beach"! |
"A Trip to the Beach" is written by the Blancgards who are originally from Vermont and now run Blanchard's in Anguilla.
Scilly Cay is wonderful for a Sunday afternoon when there is music. Also, Cedar Grove at the Rendezvous Bay Hotel and Koal Keel. I'll dig through some of my files and see if there's something I can send you :-) Marion |
Great input/many thanks to all.
