Anguilla - Diving/Snorkeling
I am planning on having Anguilla as part of my Caribbean trip with St. John being the other part.

In reading Fordite reviews, high marks are given for the beaches and water and low marks for snorkeling and diving.

However, the book Best Dives of the Caribbean, a number of sites are given very good ratings. Included are the following:

Shoal Bay East (3 stars) diving/snorkeling
Deep South Reef (4 stars) diving
Paintcan Reef (4 stars) diving
M.V. Ida Maria (3 stars) diving
Prickly Pear Reef (3 stars) diving

Other mentioned snorkeling spots are Little Bay, Prickly Pear Cays, Shoal Bay south end, Scilly Cay, Dog Island and Sandy Island.

If anyone has been to any of these spots, your input will be most appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

I don't snorkel myself, but from everything I've read about this I can tell you that Anguilla is NOT the place for snorkeling! (I have also read that St. John is.) But, you'll probably have to wait for advice from the real snorkeling experts on this...

Thanks Carolla for your reply. I have read just about what you said. I am hoping that some of these spots may have something to offer, if not I will snorkle/dive in St John and just enjoy the beauty of the beach and water of Anguilla.

Snorkeling in Anguilla is not too bad. Shoal Bay East is good for from the beach snorkeling. Little Bay is also good. Assume you will have a car. To get to Little Bay go to Crocus Hill and find Calvin. He will take you in his boat for $10 round trip. Go in the AM as there isn't much shade. A couple of hours is all you need. You might consider a Day Cruise with Capt Rollins on Chocolat. You sail to Prickley Pear and Sandy Island for snorkeling. It is $80/person including lunch. He can be contacted thru Ripples Restaurant or by calling 497-3394 E-mail is [email protected]. Johnnos runs a boat from Sandy Ground to Prickley Pear believe on Tues and Thurs. They have a beachbar/restaurant there. It is $20 round trip but the problem is it leaves at 8:30 AM. Back about 3 PM. Call them for more info. There are quite a few sunken wrecks for diving around Anguilla. I would contact Doug Carty who is a PADI divemaster. Phone is 497-4567/8438. Cell phone is 235-8438--E-mail is [email protected]. Hope this helps

Thanks Howard. I will print your info and take it along. Since my bok gave these sites such good ratings, I felt there must be something to it. Your recommendations are most appreciated.
