Americans In Vieques
 

We have been investigating a vacation in Vieques. Are people from the United States treated OK there by locals. Yes, I know Puerto Rico is part of the United States but.. Due to the bombing by US Navy I have heard Americans are treated poorly. I have also been told that there is a lot of pollution due to the bombing. I find this to be a shame as it looks like a wonderful place to visit.

Do you realize that the "locals" you're talking about are Americans too? What a flaming idiot you are.<BR>That's like asking if the "locals" in Chicago are nice to Americans. <BR>Vieques is gorgeous, we stayed there for a week last spring and we had excellent, friendly service from our fellow Americans.

Need to know, my son is stationed in P.R. and loves it. He is in the Navy himself. He is treated very nicely. Do not have any concerns.

As long as you don't express any pro-bombing sentiments, you will be fine. I was in Vieques a week before "the vote" and there were flyers up, cars with loud speakers, EVERYONE was very much against the Navy bombing. But I was treated with great kindness and hospitality. I was traveling alone and could walk the roads totally unhasseled. The island is beautiful and if you snorkel, try to do the night snorkel in the biolumescent bay! An rare and wonderful experience.

Actually being originally from Chicago I know a few Chicagoans who aren't nice to anyone and some who are very nice. Lolla, sorry to make you so "flaming" angry. But did the Happy Dance when I realized you were just a visitor to Vieques and not a resident.... Sure don't want to cross paths with you and your temper on vacation.<BR> Thank you for the two informative posts. I wish the bombing would stop. The biolumescent bay is part of the reason we are considering Vieques. Any suggestions on where to stay?
