Amanyara-Turks and Cacios newest resort--seeking information

Anyone been yet? I understand it is just about to open. Would love to hear about this fabulous new Aman Resort.
We had a lovely experience at Parrot Cay a few years ago and have alway thought of returning to T&C, but maybe trying something different.

Did you see the cover story in this month's Travel & Leisure? Looks great but not sure how those prices are going to fly in T & C -- $1,200 a night?? Heard The Palms has already had to reduce their prices. But perhaps Amanresorts attracts the money is no object crowd.

eileen, the Palms has not reduced it's prices, and it's been pretty full.

eileen: Is it the March or April issue?

AtlDad Mar 22nd, 2006 04:23 AM

You can read the article on line at the Travel Leisure web site.

The issue is the one that just arrived so it must be April. Also, according to a review in Spa magazine, The Palms has lowered its prices from what it originally announced when it first opened. There may not be any current discounts off the posted rack rates now, but they are less than was planned. That's why I will be interested to see how Amanyara does rate wise. It's my understanding that Amanresorts has quite a following so they may do better than The Palms, which is not a well known brand name.

Was it just me? or was the article missing appeal? Although, written very well, it seemed to lack the "oh, my gosh, I've got to go there" appeal. IMO the photos were not that appealing either. I want to see beautiful beaches, water, accomodations, etc. I understand this article was written well before it was even open, so I don't mean to blow it out of the water; it just didn't do much for me.

Staying at the Amanyara is like not being on Provo. It's out of the way (about 40 minutes by car on unpaved roads). It's Asian sleek, minimalist and lovely. IF money is no object, and you really don't want to explore the rest of Provo, this is where to go. It's very nice, but a typical Aman Resort. There is more flavor along Grace Bay Beach.

Hello again AnnSm: Did you actually stay there?

Shari Apr 18th, 2006 07:55 AM

I am staying there in one month. I cannot wait. So far, everything appears to be going smoothly.

I looked at the rates and I was shocked that the $1200-plus rates don't include at least breakfast (unless I read wrong). It is also at Northwest Point so very secluded so you would be kind of locked-in for meals. And I am guessing that the meals would be VERY pricey. Guess I won't be going....

Thank you katiekate. That article looked like they were promoting a woman's fashion or clothing line than the resort. Where were the white sand beach photos?? That article did not do the resort justice. I haven't been yet BTW.

I was on the beach where they built Amanyara, and it's spectacular!

katiekate Apr 20th, 2006 10:52 AM

What made it so spectacular Blamona? Did you actually see the resort or tour it?

blamona Apr 20th, 2006 01:51 PM

katiekate, the resort hadn't been built yet. Through the years I've been on that beach numerious times.
Sand so soft like talcolm powder, water so turqouise, it glows!
We use to go by 4x4 to the beach and have picnics. Before the resort got built, excursions use to have bbq's on the beach there. There use to be tiki huts from an old french game show there, they made the beach look really cool, but the resort tore them down.
I'm going to try to go through the resort in May, but if I can't, definately be on the beach.

I was excited to see recent positive reviews on Trip Advisor. We will be going in June, so I'll be sure to write a post-trip report. We can not wait!!!
