Am I going to be the only one who speaks english?

We are going to Curacao this summer. I have heard reports that very few people at the resorts and tours speak english? Does anyone have any thought on this?

Not true. The Dutch are probably the best non-native English speakers in the world. You will have NO problems being understood.

If you happen to book a tour make sure it is an English speaking one. We went on an all day tour, lunch, snorkeling, the whole nine yards and we were the only two who spoke English. I had never had this happen before, everywhere we went the tours were in English and people spoke the language,so I never thought to check on this one.

Sincerily Guilermo

Linguist,

Most residents of Curacao are tri-lingual. They almost all speak Dutch, English and Spanish. I have been on tours where the tour guide spoke in all three languages so everyone would understand (except the German tourists!).

We never had a problem understanding anyone or being understood.

English is widely spoken on Curacao. We learned a few phrases in Papiamento which is their local language, but on average we were told most locals speak seven languages fluently. The Marriott requires their staff to speak English.
