Almond Morgan St. Lucia vs. Iberostar Quetzal in Playa del Carmen

Hello,
After some research, I am trying to decide between the Almond Morgan Bay on St. Lucia and the Iberostar Quetzal in Playa del Carmen in February 2012. Both take about the same amount of time to get to, and cost approx. the same. We would go for 8-9days, and probably go exploring 2 or 3 days, plus some "local" dining, outside of the resort.
Thank you for any comments!

The beach at Almond Morgan is not great for swimming, if that bothers you. It didn't bother us since we rented a car and went to better beaches of which there are plenty. There are however alot of options for local dining and St Lucia is a beautiful island with dramatic scenery.

For beach snorkel dining ruins Iberostar best lots more to do.

Almond smaller St Lucia hillier greener smaller options

limited... bookit.com check reviews but Iberostar for me

Check out xel-ha.com pretty amazing...

It is easier to get around the Playa del Csrmen area than St. Lucia.
The areas are very different.
The beaches in Playa are better, roads are better, snorkeling is better.
Definitely easier access to "local dining" in Playa also.

I agree with schmerl. You are comparing apples to oranges. What exactly are you looking for in a vacation?

I'm surprised that you stated that they both cost about the same. We go to Mexico usually every year just because it so inexpensive. For the cost of air alone to St. Lucia I can go to Mexico on a full vacation.

Hello,
Thank you all for your replies.
Yes, I know they are very different. But, flying from Vermont in one day, both ways, the prices are almost the same. (Jet Blue now goes there) And, when I researched the excursion costs and options still I came up with approx. the same total costs.
I am torn because we love the Caribbean Island vibe, and I believe that it would be a little quieter, especially in February. But the Playa area offers at least , clearer water and a few more "park" options - maybe I am wrong - but does it feel very theme-park-ish?
It will be our first AI experience.

It might not be quiet in St Lucia in February. Depending on the dates, it is UK school holidays and Almond Morgan is popular with UK families plus it is peak season until about April as I'm sure it would be anywhere in the Caribbean.
