Are you taling about the Turks and Caicos? My wife and I stayed at the Comfort Suites in February 2002. We absolutely loved it. We had a room with a balconey overlooking the pool. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The staff are very helpful. The Ports of Call next door have three restaurants. The Barefoot Cafe (great), Calico Jacks (very good) and Lattitudes (don't miss Thursday rib night). We also ate at the Tiki Huts behind the Suites, Graces Cottage, and Hemmingways. There
were other places too but I can't remember the names. While the CS is not on the beach, the 5 minute walk is no big thing. We did the pirate cave tour around Provo and the cave tour to Middle Caicos. Both were a lot of fun. I would not hesitate to go back to CS in particular or T&C in general. The Allegro is across the street from CS. It seemed to be in need of some upgrading and had far too many children for our liking. It did have a casino.

A five minute walk from the Comfort Suites is Grace Bay. I have been to many islands in the Caribbean and this ranks first or second (can't decide between it and Grand Anse in Grenada). White, white talcum powder sand contrast against the most turquoise of turquoise water I have ever seen. It really is enough to make a grown man cry. The water is quite calm so is perfect for children or adults who are not accomplished swimmers. While there are people on the beach selling t-shirts, etc. they set themselves up at a spot and hope you stop and purchase items. Quite different then sales people going up and down the beach hassling to tourists. We did do some snorkelling off the beach but the best snorkelling was during one of our outings. This island is very safe. I don't think I met even one rude individual let alone a thief.

JJDave,
Have you been to Puerto Rico? Just wondering how beaches would compare? I'm looking for something tropical. Heard Culebra beach in Puerto Rico is gorgeous! Turks/Caicos sounds great! I loved St. Lucia and Bermuda.

While I have been to San Juan we only really saw the 'old town' and the casino strip. We didn't get to any beaches as we were only there 2 nights. I would really encourage you to consider TCI or Grenada, both great destinations. As an alternative, consider Costa Rica. wonderful place, friendly people and a lot of different things to do and see.
