All inclusives ARE worth it

I have been reading alot of negative comments about allinclusive resorts, so I did some research. A one night stay at the Divi is 148.00 compare that to a stay at Baccuti with the dine around plan(after taxes) which came up to 140.95.....that is with NO drinks included. For 8 extra I would take the all inclusive, since you run the same risk as getting bad food by ordering at anyone of the restaurants on the Dine around plan..when are you ever gauranteed PERFECT food? Each person's taste is different!!At least at the allinclusive you can try other options until you find something you like.

I plan on sampling some of Aruba's local food, and yes, I will be staying at an All inclusive. And, I am not one of those people who is going to sit at the buffet all day long....there are many activites to do outside the resort and I plan to do as much as possible!!

It just helps to have a fixed budget and you have the option on spending your vacation touring the island and doing fun things, not taxing your brain to budget every meal!!

I met a couple in Grenada this year who were in Barbados prior to that, and when they arrived at the hotel, La Source( which is All inclusive) they were stunned. Before they were sharing deserts, drinking cheap beer and snacking on crackers because the cost of food was so expensive.

For all the allinclusive bashers, don't knock it until you try it! I have tried both and, for me,allinclusive is the way to go!

LaSource is a fantastic all-inclusive with a nice beach, nice rooms, nice food, and lots of pampering. How is the Divi?

The Divi is an older low-rise hotel and cannot compare to La Source. At the Divi most meals are buffet and there are no spa treatments. Divi just a basic all-inclusive with maybe a rating of a 3.

I know you can't compare La Source to the Divi..but can you compare Aruba to Grenada? Both are different Islands!

As a Canadian who has done only a bit of travelling, my vote goes to the all-inclusive packages.
With the lousy return on our Canuck buck, you can at least determine some kind of budget, and know that you have some "mad money" in your pocket.
And all the first time travelling friends have gone A-I as well, and not regretted doing so.
You just have to research the place you are scoping, and get some feedback from returning guests.
So far, the best bang for the buck was at Breezes Costa Verde, (Holguin), Cuba.
Top notch service in a new establishment by folks who really want to keep their jobs.
We received exceptional hospitality.

We are all inclusive travelers all the way. Vacations should be worry free.

We have travelled both with and without AI, and we prefer AI because:
1. my bf likes his beer while on holiday - do you know what a pain it is foraging to purchase beer every few days, toting said beer back to the hotel, and having to devise a method to keep said beer cold?
2. while I enjoy all sorts of ethnic foods and will rarely pass on a new food adventure, the bf is a bit - well- pickier about his food. AI's offer choices to keep us both happy.
3. we're social drinkers, and it's nicer if your drinks are free.
Just my opinion.

I just wanted to chime in and say:

All inclusive is great for large parties, families, or picky eaters. All those different tastes to satisfy. But when it's just me and my hubby, we love planning and grabbing our rental car and flying over those hairpin roads to a new eating destination! Seriously. We look at it as adventure, not worry. And we have learned a few tricks, like researching where to eat beforehand, bringing a soft-side cooler for our room drinks, and when we rent a villa, bringing some foods with us, especially the first night's meal. To each his own, right?

Happy travels!

I have done both as well and will never do a non all-inclusive ever again, EVER! They are so worth it and I've never experienced bad food or drinks.

WE have doen both all-inclsuvies and non type of vacations and think is all depends on what island you are going to, whee the resort is located (in an area that does have good restaurants and choices near or not and culinary/local tastes to meet your needs) and primarily what type of vacation you are looking for.

For us, when it is a week long and my husband just wants a worry free environment without having to make choices (gets lazy on vacations!), then all-inclsives is for us) for we do also enjoy getting local flavors and different expereinces other times as well.

I travel a whole lot and never had an AI plan but in January 2002 will be my first AI vacation. (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic) I'll let you know my experience.

Unfortunately, my image of the all-inclusive is shaped by hearing stories of the over-weight, Speedo wearing 50 year olds trying to score at Hedonism. I realize that's an exaggeration and not the norm for all-inclusives.

I think it is great that you enjoy all-inclusives. There are just not for me. Why does that seemingly upset some of you?

Just curious why people on this board feel the need to bash someone with a different opinion.

Some of us dislike all inclusives, so love them. Some hate St. Martin, so enjoy. So what?

Lighten up, we're talking about a vacation in the Caribbean. We are all entitled to our own definition of that vacation. Why let someone else's opinion change what you enjoy.

Besides, if we all had to like the same thing and the same Island, think how much more expensive the airfare and hotel would be!

Ryan -- you are absolutely right. People have their own opinions. However, I'm not overweight and neither is my boyfriend. As a matter of fact, we're in good shape.

I've been reading this Board since I booked our flight to DR and got really discouraged because I of all the bashing about Puerto Plata, e.g. dirty, etc. I live in NYC and all we wanted was to have a quick get away. This is it. I'll be at a place where the weather is warm and the sun is shining.

Leilani,
From a fat guy whose not quite 50, have great time.

I wish more people would view these posts as what they are, personal opinions. Some will agree, some won't. Why take it personal?

Well from a single girl who travels alone I like all inclusives. I don't have to leave the property unless I want to and I feel safe there. I've been to Hedonism twice and frankly saw very few speedo's but it was probably because I lived on the nude side for the week. I don't tend to judge people by their looks but then guess it is your option to do so.

Hope you all have fun

We do Puerto Plata twice a year and think it's wonderful. Go to Cabarete in the evening. The beach is lined with tiny bars and restaurants and the palms wear twinkling white lights as they sway in the breeze. We take our 2 grown children and their spouses each year and stay at an AI. It's easy, less expensive, and most are full of "average" people having a fun vacation. You can always splurge on an evening out to sample a local restaurant !

I would not recommend doing an all-inclusive in Aruba as the food is excellent. I think you will really miss alot by not going to all of the great restraunts on the island. If you go with the all-inclusive take a couple of nigts out and at least go to El Goucho and La Petit. They are really worth it.
If you only go out 1 night go to
El Goucho, you will not be dissapointed.
