Airfare from California

Any hints for finding a cheap flight from San Francisco to BVI for next March? I've been pricing Orbitz itineraries for two months now but they are all running $900+.

Since it seems most flights to EIS (Beef Island, BVI) from the US have a stop-over at SJU (San Juan, Puerto Rico), you might to try pricing certain legs separately. For instance, R/T SJU to EIS is estimated at $150. And R/T SFO to SJU (always 1 stopover) can be as low as $450 for next March.

So using the above method, you can save up to $300 or more ($600 compared to $900+).

Only problem with the above scenario is if your flight from SJU to EIS is on a different carrier than your flight from SFO to SJU, and your flight is late causing you to miss your connection, you will have big problems.

It may add on travel time, but another option is to fly into St. Thomas, which is frequently less expensive than Tortola and then take a ferry from the USVI to the BVI.

I agree with ejcrowe's suggestion to look into flying to STT. This is what I've always done when traveling to the BVI. There's more airline competition into STT so fares are usually less.

She's flying from SFO! The few flights into STT from SFO with only 1 stopover cost over $800 (AA being the lowest so far). At that price he/she should just take the flight into BVI for around $900 as originally posted. Flights into STT from SFO with 2 stopovers (which usually include SJU - Puerto Rico) currently run near or over $700 for 3/05.

Again, since price seems to be a serious concern, flights into SJU will generally be the cheapest and then you can have several choices (American, US Air, Caribbean Sun, Liat, Cape Air) with multiple flights daily to either EIS or STT non-stop. And if they're worried about missing that connection in San Juan, then don't buy the ticket until they arrive. With so many flights, they'll be able to find a ticket at a decent time and price. If you don't believe me, just enter SJU to EIS for say tomorrow and see what results you can get.
