Air to St Croix in July

I just booked a week for Sat-Sat, 7-3-04 to 7-10-04 to STX and the airfares from RDU or CLT are running around $620. Should I wait? I haven't seen many summer sales out yet. Thanks,
Lisa

We too are flying to St. Croix. The cheapest fare I was able to find for week in mid-April from Boston, was $714.00. I started looking at all the airfare sites in Nov/Dec.......I tried every "which way"! I would go for the fare now; although not sure - is CLT Cleveland?? Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Diane,
Thanks for the info. CLT is Charlotte and the $620 fares are for the flights with 2 plane changes and at odd times. Did you get a nonstop or a 1 stop? My husband is NOT a good flyer so we might have to go for the nonstop for $746. He hates the small planes!!!!

Lisa,
Rates should drop, but waiting is always a gamble. RT to STX can go as low as $300 from CLT. Are you talking about USAirways? They have good direct flights to STT and continue to STX. You may want to get on their esavers email list. (You can sign up on their website) When you see rates in the Caribbean dropping check out your destination. Rates will usually drop in March and April. Again it is always a gamble and with the insecurity of the airlines these days.. they may not cut rates as low. If you check the rates frequently you may have luck. Often they will drop for only a day or two.
Hope this helps.

THANKS for the encouraging reply! I am on esavers emails and was hoping they would drop again BUT I'm worried that if we want the nonstop they would sell out faster. Any words of wisdom about that? Thanks!

USAir only offers one flight a day to St. Thomas from CLt and one from PHL.
I am booked for May and this is the first year in ages that we are flying on a 747. In an effort to save money the airline is condensing all it's flights. I don't think it will matter about it being a direct flight. There may actually be more seats avail than in the past. As a rule of thumb, I always book airfare first and then accomodations. That way I have flexibility in dates. Flying during the week will offer a better chance on lower rates.
