air conditioned villa

We will be spending a week in August 2003 on St John. Looking for an air conditioned villa. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks.

check the USVI-ON-Line.com for villa rental reviews and villa rental companies.

You don't provide enough info for anyone to provide any guidance.

Sorry, I'm new at this. We are looking for a 2-3 bedroom villa with central airconditioning on the Cruz Bay side. I've looked at several of the web sites, most of the homes do not have air and if they do it is just in the bedroom. Can anyone recommend one with ac? Thanks.

I'm not sure if there are more than a couple of villas with central air. The weather is year round highs 85 low 75 and most have ceiling fans in the shared area of the house with fans and wall unit a/c in the bdrms. More than sufficient.

We are looking at this house for next year's rental. It is not really in the Choc hole area it is accessed from the Maria Bluff road on top of the hill past the Westin:

http://www.caribbeanvilla.com/celodonna/default.html

This is the company we always use. You may want to contact them about your c/a/c question if it is that important to you.

Good Luck in your search.

If it helps, I have friends who were the first to stay at Celodonna and were married there- This was in July and there were no complaints!

You need to contact the rental companies and let them tell you what they have. I believe Villa Del Sol & Villa Hibiscus are both central AC, and they are right next door to eachother. Both of these villas are quite spectacular. You will find them listed on one of the villas sites located on the USVI-on-line website.

Linda I found JUST what you are looking for! But you have to promise not to book it Thanksgiving week....

http://www.vacationvistas.com/idyllic_villa_st_john.html

C/A, 3 beds, Great Cruz bay location.

Villa Hibiscus and it's sister property:

Do you know if there is privacy at between the two? We have seen them online before and think they are wonderful.

Also, I think "Idyllic: has the better view over Celodonna. However, they are both lovely.

Central air is the way to go if you can find it. The bedroom A/C units are usually pretty noisy.

I've lived on St. Thomas for almost 20 years although, prior to that, I lived on the US mainland, prior to that England - and have travelled extensively over the years.
I know people here who live in central A/C units and, frankly, I find them to be rather uncomfortable.
When you have central A/C you miss out on what's delightful here - i.e. the screened windows which let in the sea air and breezes and the ceiling fans which waft all those breezes around - with all those positive ions - the chirping of the tree frogs and the simple ambiance of being in the Caribbean which one presumes you're coming here for?
With central A/C and that closed-in, not-real-air stuff, you might as well be in NYC.
You're presumably coming here to enjoy a taste of the Caribbean so please don't be so determined about it.
Most villas have a separate A/C unit in the bedroom(s), as has been noted on this site. Please be assured that this is more than sufficient. Ceiling fans work very well. You're not coming to a major city - you're coming here for what the Caribbean does best and offers the best of. Enjoy! And remember the old adage about "wnen in Rome..."

In other words, "we don't have any central A/C here, so you don't need it!"
