Air Between Vieques and Culebra

My husband and I are going to Vieques and Culebra in late May. From San Juan, we will fly Cape Air into Vieques. What we can't figure out is how to economically fly from Vieques to Culebra. What are our options? Our travel agent currently has us booked on Cape Air from Vieques to SJU for $175 and then on Flamenco Air from SJU to Culebra. I have read that it shouldn't cost us over $50/person to fly from Vieques to Culebra, but this looks like it's going to cost us $300 (and this isn't round trip, by the way - we then fly Culebra back to San Juan for an additional cost). Help! What airlines should I be contacting? Is there a direct flight between Vieques and Culebra? What should we be paying?

It's tricky to fly from Vieques to Culebra. You'll get a better deal only if you can fly directly between the islands, and this is usually on-demand service only because it's not done that often. I'd suggest you check with Isla Nena Air Service (www.islanena.8m.com) or Vieques Air Link (www.viequesisland.com/val/).

If you were a larger group, I'd tell you that you could almost certainly do better, but sometimes if there are just two of you, you won't. It would certainly be cheaper for you to fly from Vieques to Fajardo and then again from Fajardo to Culebra if you can't find a direct route. That would likely cost you less than $100 per person. M&N Aviation (see info on www.viequesisland.com) can do that for you, and they might even do a flight from Vieques to Culebra if you ask. These are all small operators on basically charter routes, so they have a lot of flexibility.

I live in PR and recently was faced with the same problem. On Wednesdays, a ferry runs between the two islands.

However, I was traveling on a Thursday. I caught the 6:30 ferry from Culebra to Fajardo, then took the 9:00 from Fajardo to Vieques. Arrived around 11:00, and yes it took a bit of time, but only cost $4--plus, it's just about the one way to do it. I called all airlines listed above and all have stopped operating their Culebra-Vieques (and vice versa) route. Good luck!

there is no longer a ferry that goes from cul to vqs, that was stopped over a year ago. they have all they can do to keep the regular routes going through breakdowns!!

try air flamenco also 787-724-1818 and the airlines that others have mentioned above.

If it was me and I had to go through fajardo, i would just take the extra time and do the ferry. Save those extra bucks for pinchos at Flamenco Beach and bushwackers at mamacitas!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Unfortunately, I get seasick very easily and will have to limit this to air travel instead of a ferry.
