Advise/advice
 

Would our resident English specialist please give a lecture in the difference in usage between advise and advice? The misuse of these two words are WORSE than the "S" on St. John!

Isn't it "the misuse of these two words IS worse . . ."

Advise is a verb, advice is a noun.

What that means is that you can ask people on this thread to<BR>ADVISE (verb - 'to give advice to' 'to inform' 'to notify')you about vacation possibilties,<BR>while at the same time asking them for ADVICE (noun - 'an opinion given about what to do or how to behave')about where to go or what to do.<BR>Unless you are from England, in which case everything is up for grabs.

How about affect and effect ?

LOL...I always have trouble with those two and sometimes I butcher who and whom....
