Admiral's Inn, St Thomas: Run down & messy
Based on lodging information listed in the 1997
Fodor's Caribbean guidebook I booked and stayed for 4 nights in an oceanview room at the Admiral's Inn in Frenchtown, St Thomas. While the room was clean. I found the property to be littered with dead air condioners, the pool in need of painting and repair, and the buildings and walkways in need of major remodeling work. The Inn claims to have a tiny beach and area for snorkeling. I guess it does if you have a death wish. Water in it's salt water "pool" never got deeper that 2 feet and small boats and ferry's create waves which would cause you to hit the rocky bottom. There are great restaurants in walking distance and the town is just a few minutes stroll away. But, unless work is done to this Inn I would not stay there again. I would recommend the Hotel 1829 which is also in the same price range, listed in the 97 Fodor's guide and has a pretty bar with great views of the harbor. |
