I don't think you get the point. She's not saying that 4 adults should share a room. She's just being hypothetical.

I wouldn't lie. If you want to teach your child that it's okay not to follow the rules, that's your perogative. If you want to teach your child that it's okay to lie as long as you get something in return, that's fine too. As a teacher, I love parents who teach lessons like this at home.

Bottom line. The rate is what it is. And they do check ages especially if you are going to an island where the immigration cards and paperwork are turned over to the resort.

Wow that was quite a string of comments. The fact is, some resorts do discount for the 3rd and/or 4th person sharing a room, child or not. It just takes some research. Apple vacations has some of the best rates around. I'm sure the original poster got the message. You can't really travel outside of the US without proper ID anyway but I think the posters issue was with the cost being the same as an adult while sharing the same room. Like they said, they seem to have found a more reasonable solution.

Whew!

This whole discussion makes me very glad that we don't go to all-inclusives or stay in hotel rooms. If you have kids, staffed villas are the way to go! Everyone gets a bedroom and you pay for just what you choose to eat and drink!

I don't know any "all-inclusive" resorts that charge a discounted price for third person or whatever in the room. Hotels and resorts do this but not AIs.

Traveler: There are quite a few AI resorts throughout the Caribbean and Mexico that offer reduced rates to children. Often times, kids stay and eat for free.

Thanks for the help for those who offered suggestions rather than criticism. I have been looking and have found quite a few All-inclusive's that have kids pricing through age 12. I guess it was just coincidence that the first 3 I investigated wanted to charge an adult's price. Most of those I looked at subsequent to that would let me pay the child's rate for her. Interestingly, I had a travel agent say "We'll just tell the resort she's 11" when I inquired about the policy, she said people do it all the time. Apparently none of those people will admit it here. At any rate, there seem to be enough to choose from that will accept a 12 year old as a child so that's where we'll end up. To those that don't, they lost my business as well as many others who won't allow themselves to be ripped-off.

Whats: Maybe by pricing the kids at full adult rate they are trying to suggest that they don't really want kids there. A good deterent by pricing out at full fare.

Interesting theory, but it doesn't make sense that they would discount the under 12 year-olds, unless they specifically want to discourage 12-18 year olds only! All I know is, when we travel without our children, We look for places that don't allow children at all, or those that can't accomodate them in one room. That's a sure way to discourage kids!

Now you're talking! Call the original places and tell them why you've chosen another resort! Now THAT is a fine example to set for your kids, being a good consumer and an honest one.

...and don't be surprised if they offer to lower the rate for you when you tell them you're going elsewhere.

What a fine example of a human being you are, lying about your kids age and then starting a thread so people can tell you how to beat the system or that your a loser. I think you are a loser for starting this thread and if you cant afford to go on vacation then stay home and tell your kids a lie about it.

tiresome aren't we the self-righteous one, and so pleasant and helpful to boot. I agree, it's a tiresome topic so why did you bring it up, other than to lecture me and in general, be nasty? I can afford to go on vacation, I will not however give my money to a resort who will charge my kid as an adult. I'll leave that to the uninformed suckers who aren't smart consumers. I've found a 5 star resort that will not only not charge my kids an adult's price, but will let them stay free. That way, I can use the money I saved for a long weekend somewhere else.

Okay, so share with us the name of the 5-star all inclusive resort where your kids stay free and eat free. If it is truly a 5 star resort, doubt you saved much.

Sure. It is The Hotel Villa Caletas in Costa Rica. It can inlude meals but doesn't have to. I called, told them my kids ages and the manager said they would not charge any additional for the children. Their policy is kids through 12 are free. It is expensive ($ 300/night for a 2 bedroom villa with private pool) but it's beautiful, and would be that price whether it was 2 of us or 4. It seems like the type of place we'd enjoy more than some Barcelo all-inclusive.

Glad I wouldn't have to sell to you!! Wouldn't want to have to compete with your methods in coming to a conclusion on the deal. Usually we do business with those kind of people once and never again because we can't make a profit. Always complaining and never satisfied. Always persistent, but never understanding. You're probably one of the reasons they have to charge so much.
Hope you have a good vacation though. If they can satisfy you, I'd want to go there.

Have to admit that you did score! It is a magnificant spot and highly rated and recognized by some of the better critics! However, it is Pacific (not Caribbean) and it is cliffside some 1000' up from the crashing waves! Looking it up in my book, shows the rate at $270 a nite in season (a/i rates not shown). Am sure you will enjoy and hope you come back to share with us the experience!
