A Valentines Day Surprise...
This morning my fiance surprised me with a March trip to Aruba. We had talked about going there sometime, but now it seems we actually are!Since we enjoy smaller intimate resorts, we are going to be staying in the new Tara wing at the Bucuti. Can anyone recommend any excursions, restaurants, etc. that we might enjoy?I have been to many islands but never Aruba so I feel a bit out of my element. Thanks!

Restaurants that are really good are El Gaucho (steaks), Marandi (marandi-aruba, ocean views), Simply Fish (Marriott-sit by water), Chalet Suisse, Madame Janette's (sit outside under twinkling lights), and Rumba (downtown). Next door to the Bucuti is the French Steakhouse. They offer an Ambassadors Special for $29 each with a bottle of wine or on Frid., Sat. and Sund. they offer a prime rib special. The Bucuti offers a "honeymoon" dinner where they set up a few tables on the beach at night. If you're interested in this you should make your reservation before you arrive.
Restaurants have their own websites online where you can read the menus (rumba-aruba etc.)
We like to rent a car to get around--drive to Baby Beach, Arashi, by the lighthouse and to the Tierra Del Sol golf course.
Don't forget to take the bag that will be offered to you at the airport that contain pamphlets which will give you a lot of information and coupons.
Have a great trip!

some good suggestions from Maureen, and I'll add Avellone's, a very good Italian restaurant. Small, friendly, chef/owner comes out to talk, etc. Very nice.
As for excurions, there are some nice horseback riding outfits, either on the rockier north shore or a beach ride==they'll pick you up right at your hotel. We also enjoyed the Atlantis submarine ride, which leaves from right downtown.
