A mini-trip report of Turks and Caicos after Ike and Hanna, with pictures!

I went down with another Fodors contributor,kristen1206,(lucky her!) it was a working vacation, as I wanted to see how it looked after the 1-2 punch of Hurricanes Hanna and Ike. I'm happy to report, other than palm trees looking a little tattered, you'd never know Hanna as a cat 1 passed 3 times, and Ike as a Cat 4 passed! The beaches are as turquoise as ever, although on first impressions looks crystal clear (better than some islands not hit by hurricanes!) for snorkeling it still needs to reach the typical T&C status. Some areas gained beachfront, the areas that didn't already seem to be bouncing back. The resorts look great, the restaurants are in full swing. It was quiet season, combined with after hurricanes, we had the whole beach to ourselves. We explored, and if we didn't know about the hurricanes, there was very few random signs of it. There are probably deals to be had-so go now before the prices can go up-take advantage-the beach is gorgeous!! the weather was fantastic, sunny sunny sunny.

Thanks for the update Blamona. So glad Provo is doing well. I hope the other T&C islands are coming along good as well. Did you post your pre-hurricane trip report yet? I've love to read it.

I will post my pre-hurricane report soon, I promise. The reason it's taking so long: I went everywhere, and through everything, and probably have 2500 pictures to go through! I went to: Salt Cay, Grand Turk, South Caicos, West Caicos, even Ambergris Cay. And first, I have to finish writting Fodor's In Focus: Turks and Caicos, which I'm sure everyone on this board is going to buy! ;-) So you see, I have my work cut out for me!!!

Blamona truly is an expert on T&C and I learned so much about the island during our 5 days together. I also met a bunch of wonderful people whom I hope to see again soon!

One thing I will say about Provo is no matter how often I see that gorgeous turquoise water, it takes my breath away everytime.
