A little adventure in the caribbean
I was wondering if anyone had suggestion of a caribbean island that has some hiking or something more than sitting on a beach and drinking at clubs. Rain Forests, or mountains something a little more
Not an island, but look at Belize!
Hiking, canoeing, Cave exploration, ancient ruins. Check out http://www.mayawalk.com/ to get a flavor. If you also want beaches, Ambergris Caye is just off the coast. We did a week at each and had a great time. |
St. Vincent or Dominica. Grenada once it recovers from Ivan.
The island of Nevis located near St. Kitts. The Mt. Nevis Hotel and Beach Club offers adventure packages which include a guided hike, horseback riding etc. Scuba is offered at the Qualie Beach Hotel. Also see reviews at Trip Advisor.
Dominica is an eco-tourist's delight. Saba is also an interesting island for hiking and offers exceptional diving but it lacks beaches.
Jamaica. Rain forests and mountains and near-desert and little towns and big cities and all kinds of stuff....
Try Puerto Rico. They do have a rain forest and in addition really cool sights to see include Old San Juan, the old Spanish forts, especially el Morro, the Bacardi rum factory, many cool beaches, casinos, golf, etc. We loved it there. Good luck. :-)

Try Tiamo Resort in South Andros.

St. Lucia in the caribbean, or Costa Rica
St. Lucia or St. Vincent.

I would recommend Nevis - it has a wonderful rainforest with good hiking trails, and a very nice 'eco-hotel' (Golden Rock) nearby.
Ditto Jamaica (away from the resorts) love the culture.
Never been to Belize or Costa Rica, although researching it for a future trip, my understanding is they are on the up and coming unspoiled vacation spots. |
joshualennon - St John has lots of hiking trails, & 4 wheel drive roads, plus beautiful beaches for snorkling too. Not a frou-frou type island at all, but has it's share of good restaurants & fun, laid back nightlife too. Worth considering. We love STJ and my husband wouldn't last 5 mins. laying on the beach. Plenty of activities there!
