As regards Hurricane risk, Cayman has just release an island wide Hurricane Guarantee covering many hotels and condos... so you can cancel at any time up to 48 hours (or in some cases less) at no more than a one night penalty... no questions asked... no conditions.

We are looking at coming for a week in mid August. Looking at staying at the Reef, but we have a few concerns about staying a little way out-we will have our 7yr old son with us and my Husband just had knee surgery last month.

Also, if you have any suggestions on where to stay- where there is not such a large crowd or give us some good suggestion on activities and restaurants around the Reef Resort. Do you suggest we need to rent a car if we stay at the Reef Resort. We are not looking at doing a lot of the Tourist stuff maybe taking our son to see the turtles. We did the sting ray thing in Belize a couple of yrs back.
We are looking forward to hanging out at the beach and having a beach bar, restaurant and a pool and a room close to the beach. We will be leaving out of Houston

I know all about the island wide Hurricane Guarantee... The Reef introduced it last year and this year I convinced the powers that be to make it island wide

As to your other questions re The Reef :
- Definitely rent a car if staying with us, car rental in Cayman is inexpensive and Cayman is safe, with lots of good restaurants and hidden beaches and snorkel spots... you'd miss out if you don't
- With a 7 year old and husband with a bad knee, make sure to get a unit where you can walk right out onto the beach... The Reef is one obvious choice, but other than that I'd suggest a 7MB condo which can guarantee you a beachfront room...won't make any specific recommendations, but some quick research on this and other forums will point you the right way.

To your other question, we don't have much in the way of organised kids activities in August at The Reef, but we have a huge beach and great pools... I've got kids a similar age and that is all they need on vacation

Having said that, some of the major hotels do the sorts of kids clubs where they will take kids off your hands, we just offer babysitting if you want an evening for dinner to yourselves.

tom, i was just looking at your website. very nice. two questions.
i'm assuming by the name that you have some fairly good snorkeling from your beach. is this correct?
and from the heli video could you tell me what is next door to you on the left looking from the sea?

Well, it looks like we will be staying at the Hyatt due to a couple from my Husband's work just returned from GC and stayed at the Hyatt with their kids and talked highly about it. We are going with their suggestion and staying at the Hyatt. Thanks for your help.

Virginia... the pink buildings to the left are the Morritts resort, a large timeshare resort next door to us.

luv2swim... you will enjoy the Hyatt, and with only 53 suites on a small property, won't be a problem for your husband and his bad knee...enjoy... but do still rent a car to explote the island

I was reading online on a dive site about The Reef Resort and the Blue Iguana Recovery Progam at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park . It's great that you are doing so much for the environment and the Blue Iguanas.
