7 days solo...Cuba or Puerto Rico, guys???

Decided to take a last-minute flight out of town for some adventure and R&R...

Any advice on whether I should visit Puerto Rico or Cuba? Looking for a low-key, low-stress excursion with some cultural appeal. Two destinations/hotels max. Primary interests are music, food, beaches...lower the budget the better.

Any advice? And if you were to pick 2 spots/cities in each?

Obviously Havana would be one if it's Cuba

Thanks!

Since Cuba and Puerto Rico once upon a time were considered sister islands, there are a lot of similarities between the 2 island nations. The language and culture too are similar which come from Spanish, African, and Taino Indian traditions.

The major difference is in the government and economy. Peirto Rico is a democracy while Cuba is more of dictatorship. You can maybe explore more of Puerto Rico and come back for Cuba later with friends. Have a great trip

Cuba - no contest! If you are able to go there without some sort of organised tour, then definitely go while you can. Havana is very interesting and laid back, great private restaurants, lots of cultural appeal and if you want a two centre holiday, beach resort at Varadero. PR just does not hold the same interest for me having been there twice. Cuba on the other hand is somewhere different which is hard to come by. People are lovely esp in Havana, great dance clubs and nightlife, not at all how you imagine.

I wholeheartedly agree with Odin's suggestion. The logic rendered is quite salient. Read lots of guidebooks on 'CUBA!' I'd suggest TIME OUT Havana & the BEST OF CUBA; it's my favorite from amongst the lot, the one that I'm reading and using in preparation of my week's visit to Havana in February/March 2015. I'm going on an Educational People-to-People and plan to do some skirting out on my own in spite of the rules; I plan to do this discreetly and respectfully.

Go to http://www.cubaabsolutely.com/What's...-On-Havana.php. This is a wonderful, wonderful website that done on a monthly basis. I've received lots of great information which will prepare me well for this adventure!

I would go for Cuba - for the beautiful cities, the music.
Some say food isn't quite the best, to formulate softly.
But, Puerto Rico is becoming trendy nowadays.
Could it be that Puerto Rico has nicer beaches? From what I've seen on photos it may be so.

I think I'd pick Cuba!
