5 days on Anguilla - What to do?
 

Hi,
Our wedding date is approaching and in 6 weeks we'll be on our Honeymoon. We'll be spending 5 days on Anguilla before leaving for St. Barth. We'll be staying at CA. We're very active and would like to go to different places every day. Also, we like good dining and my fiance is a scuba diver. Please tell us what NOT to miss there. Any suggestions on spas, dining, day trips would be greatly appreciated.

Do a day sail with Capt Rollins on Chocolat to snorkel at Prickly Pear and Sandy Island. He can be contacted thru Ripples restaurant in Sandy Ground. Think the e mail address is [email protected]. Take a trip to Shoal Bay beach east and have lunch at Le Bar and then go to Gwens and take a nap in the hammocks. For night life The Pumphouse has live entertainment Wed thru Sat nights. If you are there on Sunday go to Scilly Cay in Island Harbour and spend the afternoon. The Happy Hits play. Splurge and have the lobster/crayfish platter. Rum punches are killers. Expensive day but lots of fun. If you are there 11-14 Nov there is a Tranquility Jazz festival. Restaurants--You'll get lots of recommendations. We like Blanchards (expensive ) Very good food and romantic. Cove Castles is excellent. Trattoria Tratmonto is very nice beachfront dining--Try the lobster ravioli. The restaurant at Altamer is also excellent. Go wed night when Dumpa and the Vibes play. On Monday try Mangoes. Nice setting on the beach. Boss and Friends play about 9 PM. Call ahead to make reservations and check on entertainment. Understand CA has a very nice beach BBQue. Less expensive local places and Tastys, E's Oven (Great Chicken) and Picante (Mexican). Great margueritas and the Lime Tequilla brick chicken is really good. The Spa at Cuisinart is very nice as is the Spa at Malliouhana. Hope this helps. Have Fun !! Will be on Anguilla 22-30 Nov. Howard C. has some great suggestions; I also recommend a sail to Prickly Pear. The other thing I would add is a day trip to St. Martin, if you haven't spent any time there already. Although I greatly prefer both Anguilla and St. Barth's (sounds like a great trip), a trip to Marigot (or better yet, Grand Case) for lunch would be fun. And St. Martin is a very easy ferry ride from Anguilla, unlike from St. Barth's. Finally, I highly recommend L'Esprit Saline on St. Barth's for dinner--I've been there about three times now, and the food is great as is the outdoor ambiance.

Also go out to Nats Palm Grove at Junks Hole Savanah Bay for a lobster lunch on the beach and snorkeling. You will need to rent a car while you are there to get around

As for restaurants, I also very much recommend Oliver's; we had a great dinner there this summer, and the setting is beautiful.
We also enjoyed driving to Island Harbour at the east side of the island (very different atmosphere from the pretty but more touristy west side!) , and having a simple but excellent lunch at the Arawak Inn.

You have to make a point of having lunch at Smitty's in Island Harbor -- best crayfish & lobster on Anguilla. Plus, Smitty will treat you like gold --he is truly wonderful. Another must - breakfast at Tasty's -- their hash browns are just amazing and their grand marnier french toast is to die for. Also agree w/ Howard on visiting Nat's Palm Grove but must add that you don't forget the johnnycakes and the mango daiquirie.

I have to agree about Smitty's... it and he were the high point of our stay! We went back twice. And really, we've never had any better lobsters or crayfish than his and we've had a LOT of those in the Caribbean.
