5 Best restaurants in Provo (TCI)
I would love if you seasoned travelers to Provo could help me out. Traveling with HB and we will be staying on Grace Bay beach.
I would really appreciate any ideas on restaurants and where they are located and if a car or taxi is needed. Looking for good tasty food. Doesn't have to be fine dining. Thanks for any help you can give me. |
hey stella, grace bay beach is 12 miles long. your location makes a difference but generally if you want to try out restaurants you will want a car.
my personal favorite is anacona at grace bay club. its beautiful, tropical and the food is quite good. go early, get a cocktail and walk towards the beach to hang out in their outdoor living room. or take a stroll on the beach. also at turtle cove marina i like the tiki hut and aqua bar. |
Hi Stella. I agree with virginia, we also liked the Tiki Hut at Turtle Cove. Sharkbite is good too, for some casual lunch. We didn't get a chance to try Anacona, but I keep reading wonderful reviews about it.
|
We all agreed that Iguana was our best meal, We were travelling with our DS (16) who really enjoyed his 'veggie lasagna, BTW he's not a vegetarian!
I loved the Rack of Lamb and DH liked the curry. Not fine dining by any means, we sat outside - $127 inc. tip for 3 entrees, 2 desserts and 2 drinks each. |
Oh, and another vote for the Tiki Hut - $83 inc tip for 1 appetizer, 3 entrees and 2 drinks each.
We had a late lunch so it wasn't busy at all and the service was very good. |
Bay Bistro(at Sibonne)-the blackened fish wrap
Anacoana(Grace Bay Club) the seafood ravioli Hemmingways(the Sands) the key lime pie |
Coyaba at Coral Gardens, Magnolia Wine Bar and Restaurant at Mirimar, Bay Bistro at Sibonne, Anacona at Grace Bay Club (Most romantic--Live music wed, fri and sat). Aqua in Turtle Cove and Coco Bistro. For lunch Hemmingways at The Sands and Bugaloos in Blue Hills.
|
I totally agree with Coyoba and Anacona! They are expensive but really with the $$$. If you like conch, the restaurant at the Alexandra really knows how to cook it.
|
WOW....
Thanks everybody!! You all made me hungry. We will be staying at the Sibonne nice to know they have a good restaurant. Sounds like Provo has some great spots to dine. Many Thanks....Stella |
At Bay Bistro sit at a table in the bar area and order a drink or wine and have Junior deliver it on his head. real cool guy and quite talented
|
We loved Tiki hut..reasonable but slow service..
Gecko Grille was excellent..We went for our honeymoon and loved the ambiance and the food..... Caicos cafe stunk..Huge prices for a lousy bowl of pasta ... |
My husband and I are thinking about going to Provo in February and staying at the Royal West Indies Resort. Does anyone know if there are many restuarants (hopefully some of the ones suggested in this post) within walking distance of the resort? Thanks!
|
Erie03,
From RWI, Anacaona is next door, at Grace Bay Club-an easy walk. We did walk for lunch several times to Bay Bistro(Sibonne) and Hemmingways(Sands), a much longer walk but we did it and enjoyed the exercise. Turtle Cove is too far to walk to. When we went to Coral Gardens, we had shuttled to Sands that afternoon(free from GBC) and then walked the remained to CG. CG would also be quite far from RWI.Hope this helps you somewhat. Enjoy!! |
Stella,
I am curious..what does HB mean?? Thanks :) Christie |
Thanks for all the great recommendations. We will be going there soon and the info is very helpful.
|
I believe HB = husband.
|
Coco Bistro is within walking distance of RWI
|
You can walk to Coco Bistro too from RWI & Ports of Call shopping plaza & Danny Buoy's.
|
Word of advice--If you are walking on the roads at night bring a flashlight. No sidewalks and few street lights. Also bring one if you are walking on the beach.
|
Tiki Hut and Hemmingways have my vote. Headed there again Thursday, anyone been to Hole in the Wall?
|
Howard,
Great suggestion regarding flashlight. Good tip. Keep them coming. HB short for husband. Stella |
Stella: another tip:
If you want to go on any excursions, call Silverdeep and JBtours the day you get down there, If they don't have enough people, they don't go out. By leaving your name and room with them, they can call you when they get enough, tell you what day they are going out. Trust me, it's all about the water, and you must get out in it!!! |
Blamona,
yes, we want to take a water excursion. I will call when we get there to get on a list. Looking at 1/2 day tours. Which one do you suggest? Anyone have more tips to share? I have one. When we went to St John we purchased a "neat sheet" to use on the beach when chairs weren't available. Many uses. They fold up flat and takes up very little room. They are water proof and you just shake the sand off. Better than sitting on a wet towel. Stella |
Stella--We have done J&B tours. 1/2 Day. Found them to be very good. You go to Little Water Cay to see the Iguanas, a deserted cay, snorkel stop and a cay for shelling. They p[rovide transportation from your resort. To save time on tips do a search on this site under HowardC. You will find info on Provo as well as other islands. Also go to cairbbean-on-line.com Turks and Caicos forum and do a howard search in the archives and you will find more info on Provo than you ever wanted.

Simba at the Turks & Caicos Club
Tiki Hut Da Conch Shack (formerly Bugaloo's) Parallel 23 Hemingways |
Thank you Howard for your reply. I have been lurking on different forums to gather info and tips.
I did go back to previous posts. But things keep changing in Provo that I decided 3/4 months previous to date is good. Other wise I will drive myself crazy. Example: Bugaloos is now Da Conch Shack. Just read it on another forum and on this posting. You have alot of knowledge and experience, sorry if I have repeated questions asked previously. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and tips. Stella |
Stella, wait until you see that water, it is the most beautiful in the world. you will compare Grace Bay Beach to all beaches from now on.
I've done both JBTours.com and Silverdeep.com, they are both fairly equal. My choice restaurants are Tiki Hut and Hemmingways, splurge 1 night in Magnolia's. There is a Gecko shuttle that goes to most resorts and restaurants, BUT I would rent a car for a couple of days, you can have a picnic on Sapadilla Bay, or take a 4x4 to Malcolms Beach. Both are stunners. Make sure you take food and drinks, as those are deserted. Lunch on Hemmingways can be on the beach, so you never have to leave. Another good lunch is Saltmills Cafe. If you can afford an all day trip, Middle Caicos does everything the 1/2 day does, PLUS caves, passes North Caicos, Pine Cay, Parrot Cay, and the beach in Middle Caicos is gorgeous. Well worth it. For off the beach snorkeling, go in front of Coral Gardens. Both Tiki Hut and Hemmingways (Sands Resort) have their menus online. You'll have fun!!! |
Going again 2-10 Nov so will post a trip report shortly after getting back
|
HowardC,
I will be looking for your trip report. It will be interesting to read any updates on hotels and restaurants. The more I read about Provo the more excited I get. Sounds like a great island with wonderful good snorkeling and plenty of places to eat. Have a great trip and take notes. (of course you will) Stella |
