4 day Carribean getaway
 

My husband and I are planning a 4 night, 3 days getaway in January. We are coming from NY and would like an island that is non stop and not the Bahamas or PR, been to both. Any island recommendations that has hiking and biking?

St. Thomas is reachable non-stop from the NY area and it offers some hiking and biking but parts of the island can be a bit crowded with heavy traffic. If you are willing to add a short ferry ride you can easily get to St. John which offers better hiking (2/3's of the island is a National Park) & biking. Warning these two islands are hilly which could make the biking a little tough unless you and husband are physically fit.

St. Martin is reachable N/S from the NY area. It has some hiking opportunities and you could bike around the island but biking is not very popular there so be careful when travelling on the roads.

What about Turks & Caicos? It has beautiful resorts and is a new, hip location that many people haven't discovered yet.

True you can reach Providenciales in the T&C's non-stop from New York but it is a rather flat and arid island so there's not much of interest to see while "hiking and biking". Also, since the OP has already been to the Bahamas she and her husband might want a destination that is hilly and lush rather than the T&C's which are very similar topographically to the Bahamas.

we went to St. Thomas about 6 years ago and spent a day on St. John, we liked it but didn't really have a desire to go back. Maybe we didn't have a good experience....we were thinking about St. Lucia and Barbados but they both seem like a long trip for a short stay. I would love a really nice resort and am willing to spend the $$ since it is our first getaway alone in over a year.

Just looked up Punta Cana, DR? The Paradisus Palma Real looks beautiful. Can you hike and Bike on the island??
