3-days in South Beach, FL - which Island to visit for additional 4 days?
I was wondering if a vacation could easily be split up between South Beach Florida and one of the carribean islands? Has anyone ever tried this before. Which island is close enough to not lose too much time traveling? Is it a good idea, or would we regret the South Beach, FL part? We're still in our 20s and looking for a fun and exciting vacation, but love gorgeous beach/ocean and large resorts!

Cat, you may try Puerto Rico. Another idea is a cruise. You could easily get a reasonably priced carnival three or four night cruise out of Miami since you're already there. I did that a couple of years ago and had a great time. The cruise stops at Cozumel and Key West. Have fun.

We usually end our caribbean vacations with a trip to Florida. We live on the East coast. We fly to our caribbean destination, any island does not matter. We stay for a week. We fly to Florida via American/Am Eagle, stay for 3-4 days and fly from Fla to JFK. It's very easy, no big deal. We usually like to end our trip with Florida (we have gone to Sanibel/Captiva, Disney, Universal) since the Carib is so relaxing, we like to step it up a notch before we go home and have fun on the rides and run around like idiots! We're just not ready to go home after 7 days so we stretch it out a little and do the complete opposite of the caribbean, its fun! (we are in our early 40's, no kids) Believe it or not the Grand Floridian and the Portofino at Universal are beautiful hotels with great services and spas.

Going to Nassau Bahamas from Florida is the best thing to do. The plane ride is 45 minutes! The best place I recommend, because you said you like large resorts, is the Atlantis Paradise Island.

We did that too, went to Atlantis for 4 days then went to Fla for 4 days. The Am Eagle flight was short and plesant 45 minutes! Watch the weather in the Bahamas if you are planning for the winter, it can be a bit cooler than you would expect. All in all a fun trip
