2nd honeymoon carribean
My husband and I are planning a trip in October for a 2nd honeymoon. We haven't travelled in the Caribbean before. We would like something private, good food, beautiful beaches, good snorkling,a private plunge pool would be a nice touch. We would like to be ocean front - we love the beach. We do not particularly want a typical resort, we want the island feel but with some luxeries.
Please Help!!!!!

We are planning on spending some money for a very nice vacation, we looked at Peter Island to give you an idea but it looks too conventional - not enough privacy. We also have looked at oceanfront villas. Does this help?

Check out Cayo Espanto near Ambergris Caye in Belise. Also look at Guana Island in the BVI's. Petit St. Vincent Resort (in the Grenadines) may suit your needs but it might be closed in October. Also look at Amanyara Resort on Providenciales in the Turks & Caicos. finally, Little Dix Bay on Virgin gorda is a superb resort but if you didn't think Peter Island offered enough privacy you might not like Little Dix Bay.

Hi islands,
Wow-Peter Island looks beautiful!!! I’ll have to look into that for a future trip! Okay, so that helps a lot with what you’re looking for. If you want something even more private than Peter Island, I would check out Mahoe Bay Villas on Virgin Gorda (they seem to be in the same price range). We went there last year and loved it. You can rent a private villa with your own pool and the beach had at the most about 5 other people on it at any one time. It’s not part of a resort however, so if you’re looking for something like that than this isn’t the place for you. Although they do have tennis courts that the houses on Mahoe Bay have access to. By far it’s the nicest beach I’ve been on. It’s extremely calm with clear blue water, soft sand, sunset right out front, and very quiet, if that’s the sort of beach you’re looking for. Here’s the one we rented, and you can view the others on Mahoe Bay on this site as well. From what I hear on reviews they’re all outstanding.

(In comparison, I’ve been to Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Martin, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Bahamas (cable beach), Kauai, Maui).
We’re going to St. John this September and I hear they have very nice beaches, but I wasn’t able to find any private villas directly on the beach, so we rented one in the hills. I hear nothing but great things about St. John so that might be one to look into as well. Here’s where we’re staying:

If you want something that’s still private but part of a resort and not on a beach, but overlooking the ocean with beautiful sunsets, you can check out Stonefield Villas on St. Lucia. We loved it there as well. It’s set at the base of the Pitet Piton-very lush and beautiful, and a lot cheaper too.

Although if you want to be beachfront you might want to check out Jalousie right next door-that’s beachfront and is situated between the 2 pitons-great beach there too and I believe they have villas w/plunge pools as well as regular hotel rooms. We went there everyday for the beach.

I haven’t been, but I hear Palm Island is very nice as well, but very expensive. Also, the St. James Club in Antigua looked nice too. They’re both on the site below.

Finally, if you don’t mind traveling far, and want something really outstanding, consider venturing to Kauai, HI. The Princeville resort is wonderful. We stayed there for our honeymoon.

It’s hard to decide-so many wonderful places to see!
Good luck in your travels! Hope this helps.

All good suggestions so far. I'll second the recs for Guana Island (I honeymooned there, but I'm not sure it's open in October), and Petit St. Vincent.
I'll also add in the suggestions for Young Island, a tiny private island resort just off the coast of St. Vincent. www.youngisland.com
Biras Creek on Virgin Gorda, which is a Relais & Chateaux property. www.biras.com
And perhaps LaLuna on Grenada. Intimate feel, plunge pools, good food, nice beach, pretty good snorkeling, and a very romantic non-resort vibe. www.laluna.com
If you have a really high budget, perhaps Spice Island, also on Grenada. Can't recall its website. More resort-y than LaLuna, but it's still quite intimate in size.
Jalousie Plantation on St. Lucia as another poster suggested has most of the things you're looking for, but it is definitely a resort in feel. That being said, it's' the most spectacular real estate I've ever seen!

We just got back from Cap Juluca in Anguilla and it was wonderful! not your typical resort by any means. You could rent a villa that has a private pool and though pricey, perhaps in October it wouldn't be too bad. i don't think the snorkeling is great, but it is very romantic!

Thanks for the responses, we don't want to do Mexico though - not a big fan of that part of the Carribbean.
Does anyone know of someplace w/private cottages and plung pools? I guess I am looking for someplace that makes me feel I am on a deserted island. Does this exist?
I looked at Guana but when looking at pictures of rooms they looked very basic - can any one help w/actual photo's?

No plunge pools and on the cliffs vs the beach but you won't miss the beach. The caves Jamaica is amazing for a romantic...different getaway. We like to try different resorts, but I can tell you that we want to return to the caves next year. It is so wonderful. You get a cave dinner with 100 candles and flowers (so romantic) and a sunset in a private hot tub. The resort only has 11 rooms, so it is never crowded. You can be as alone as you want. It was amazing!

I would also recommend PSV (Petit St Vincent) Hard to get to, but very private and beautiful. I should state that my husband and I are beach fanatics (we own a beach house), but with the amazing blue water to swim in and the great lounge areas at the caves...I was more than happy to give up the sand. I believe island outpost has another resort called pink sands that may come close to fitting your criteria. Sivory is in Punta Cana and has the plunge pools, but it has been getting terrible reviews. Friends love Cap Jaluca in Anguilla too. Palm Island is supposed to be spectacular, but very pricey. If you want complete isolation...Goldeneye in Jamaica (also and island outpost resort. Good Luck and feel free to ask additional ???
