1st visit to St. Barths

We are trying to plan a relatively inexpensive visit to St. Barths in early Dec. before the high season. We are not generally the fancy resort type. Have trolled the internet extensively. Does anyone have an opinion on Hotel Emeraude Plage, Hotel Baie des Anges, Tropical Hotel? These seem to be the less upscale ones on or near the beach. Have considered villas but wonder if they are too isolating for a first visit. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi. Im not sure how much that you want to spend but I do know of a place that is not too expensive. Its located in the countryside-in the town called Lorient. The name of this place is La Normandie Hotel. They have about 8 rooms and a freshwater pool. Very low key but clean. You might want to chk it out. Hope this helps

Check into the Village St. Jean Hotel. We stayed there a couple of years ago. It's very conveniently located and a great bang for the buck. Our friends stayed at the Baie des Anges last April. We were in St. Barth then also and we visited them. We weren't all that impressed with the hotel itself (neither were they) but it's located on beautiful Flammands Beach. We stayed at the Christopher and absolutely loved it.

I've had several experiences with Village St. Jean - all good, but you have a 5 minute walk to the beach, and it is up hill coming back. Not a problem if you are lazy enough to drive it.

Village St. Jean is very nice(stayed there twice), but also check out Filao Beach.
Filao is on St. Jean beach, has a pool & a nice restaurant/bar. You're within walking distance to plenty of shops & restaurants, but be sure to rent a Jeep to explore the island.
