1st time to Santiago de Cuba

We are 2 Americans going on a "hosted" trip to Santiago in June for 3 nites/4 days. Staying at Melia Santiago. Any ideas for a tour of the city, historical sites, places to eat, etc? Thanks for your response.

hi amy...I was in Santiago last year for a day trip during a one-week trip to Guadalarvaca. Santiago is the second largest city in Cuba. There are things to see...although it is not Havana...I suggest you visit in the old downtown...a nice square with historic buildings (cour house, cathedral etc). A visit of the cemetary is also worth a detour. The Cobre is another must, a kind of sanctuary some 20 minutes from downtown...The Old fort (El MOrro) is also worth a visit...beautiful view on the Carribean Sea, lots of good pirate stories...There is a restaurant there as well ( that where we ate with our bus tour and the food was honest). I heard some of the beaches Baconao or something are nice). I would have loves to stay longer and will return...I love Cuba.

Have a great time!
