1st time to Barbados

My wife and I have been vacationing in the Caribbean for the last 30 years. We have been to Grenada for the last 7 years and thought we would try a new destination this year. Then the hurricanes hit eliminating a number of potential destinations. We are not interested in Mexico or the Dominican Republic.

I have started to research Barbados. From what I have read the West coast may be best for the calmer waters we like but the South coast seems to have a number of positive reviews too. The hotels I have reviewed on the West coast seem awfully expensive for what we would need. We are not interested in all-inclusive resorts.

We will be travelling from Ottawa through Toronto. We would prefer accommodation with a kitchenette. We'd like to be on the beach within walking distance of town so we can venture out for meals and such. I'd prefer not to exceed $250 US/night.

Any suggestions for tours or sites of interest would also be appreciated.

Good day Dave,
I am pleased you have decided to make Barbados your next vacation spot, I can guarntee you, you and your wife, will have a wonderful time. There are many wonderful things to do on the island.

The west coast has nice beaches but also the south coast, the general waters on the island except the north and east coasts are calm and inviting.

Here are a few things you can do on the island.
Harrisons Cave (A magnificent cave)
Oistins Fish Fry on Friday nights
Atlantis Submarine (explore Barbados reef 200feet below)
The Animal Flower Cave
National Trusts Hike
Harbour light Dinner Show
Swim and relax on Miami Beach
Night life in Famous St Lawrence Gap
Island tours
Catamaran Cruises
Swim with turtles in Carlisle Barb Marine Reserve

Those are a few things you can do on the island

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask me.

Cheers

Dave, I stayed at the Meridian Inn in St. Lawrence Gap, feet away from Dover Beach. It is not luxury, but clean, air condition, daily maid service, with a small kitchenette and much lower than your budget of $250. There frequent vans to Bridgetown, nightlife and restaurants. The Meridian Inn is on the quiet end of the Gap.
