$1700 for 4 nights at Ritz Carlton San Juan (including airfare)... Good deal?

Expedia seems to have a pretty darn good deal for 4 nights at the Ritz Carlton in San Juan in May. The price is $1751 and includes direct flights there and back from DC.

This seems to be a good price to me. Can anyone comment? Also - I asked in a previous post but will ask here too... for $90 extra per night we can upgrade to the Club Level. Is this worth it??? (We do plan to be in/around the property for much of our stay... it's a BabyMoon and meant to be ultra relaxing and pampering!)

THANKS!!!

Not a bad deal unless the cost is per person based on double occupancy. In May, you can get a room at the hotel for about $239 per night on some nights, and you can get a flight on a cheap airline for about $300 or $350. So do the math.

Also, you should be aware that the Ritz-Carlton in San Juan has a particularly hefty "resort fee" that is probably NOT included in the price quoted by Expedia.

If it were me, I'd skip the club level and spend my money on spa treatments and nice meals.

You should check out Ritz's wesbite for the days you are interested and then see what flights would be to really determine whether the package is worth it. I have always found "packages" to be no less expensive than doing things ala carte, but that is the only true way to know if it is a good deal.

As for whether club level is worth it, it all depends. I have friends who LOVE club level, my friend likes to take an afternoon siesta and her DH used the club level to have a drink and read the paper. If breakfast is not included, the club level is a nice way to enjoy "complimentary" breakfast. It's also nice for snacks , a light lunch and a pre dinner drink. My DH and I do big lunches out, have breakfast usually included in our rate through amex and don't snack, so for us club level is not really worth it. So it depends on you--I think also if it is 90 per person i would think maybe not worth it. If it is 90 per day, maybe yes.

It is $1700 for two people - includes airfare for two and four nights at the Ritz. So I think that is a pretty fair deal... especially since the rate seems to increase by $1k the few weeks prior and the few weeks after.

The $90 is per room per night - so $45 per person. As I won't be drinking, I'm beginning to think we may do just as good by going on our own for all meals. But it still may be worth it just for the splurge.

THANKS for the input!!!!

Meals in San Juan can be very expensive. There's a BLT Steak now in the Ritz-Carlton, and it gets mixed reviews from my friends who are in San Juan weekly and have eaten there. But they love the Ritz-Carlton spa. I think you'll be happy with your choice, and the price does seem right since it's for 2 people. Enjoy.

I've been to the Ritz Carlton in San Juan a number of times and have always stayed at the Club Level and I can tell you that $45 per person to upgrade to the Club Level is a bargain. You should go for it. It is sooo nice to have a place for breakfast, lunch, hor d'ouvres and drinks and coffee/desserts. The room itself is very relaxing and comfortable, with a balcony overlooking the pool and ocean. Plus, upgrading will at least guarantee you a room on a high floor.

Yes - this is quite a bargain in my eyes as well. I have never stayed at the ritz in san juan personally, but I've heard quite a few good things about it.

you're getting a good deal. we almost did the same thing, but switched to the Westin Rio Mar for the same price, but the dates and flights worked better.

we stayed at the RC in SJU, club level, but we were comp'd and if you're not drinking I definitely would not pay extra for it. Like others said, use that money for other things and have a great time, it's an awesome hotel.
