Your favorite restaurant in OLD MONTREAL?
 

Hi!

Want to find a romantic (not formal) restaurant in OLD MONTREAL to end a special trip.

Would be great if it were BYOB, but I won't hold my breath if that doesn't exist in this part of town.

Emphasis on:

--good French or Quebecois cuisine;
--friendly and laid-back;
--nice view (patio/terrace/outdoor)

NO TOURIST TRAPS, PLEASE.

So far, Le Bourlingueur and Boris Bistro have been mentioned to me for Old Montreal.

Any idea how Le Bourlingeur (Alsatian) is so inexpensive? (Is it bad?)

Jardin Nelson looks utterly charming, but I'm thinking the menu might be too limited (crepes, sandwiches, pizza).

Les Ramparts in the Auberge du Vieux-Port. Excellent French cuisine and a rooftop dining area. They have a website if you want to see pictures and check out the menu. Also, the restaurant in the Hotel Nelligan looked really pretty with the windows open out to the street (no idea what kind of food though).

The restaurant at the Hotel Nelligan is called 'Verses' and it is rather good. The chef does a varied menu (featuring Quebecois and other cultural references) involving interesting ingredient combinations to delicious effect.
Duck with orange foam, a trio of caviar in a frozen teaspoon, wild boar and cherry compote, sea bass with celeriac and ginger etc.

And speaking of the Nelligan, you can always count on this boutique hotel for a delightful stay. Exposed brick walls, oversized bath tubs and Miles Davis CDs to listen to on the B&O mini-sound system, while enjoying champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries that we found in our room when we got back from a late dinner.

It sounds like we'll be having dinner in the Plateau area that night instead...and going to Old Montreal for a walk and a drink somewhere.

So...now a fun or nice Old Montreal bar recommendation is needed!

You'll get laid back and byob more easily on the plateau for sure; the Nelligan is exquisite but pricey and chic. You could stop there for your after dinner drink, St. Paul street is very nice to stroll on, quieter near St. Sulpice street as opposed to Place Jacques Cartier ( tourist trap area, imo). I've heard the Modavie has a fun bar scene, and les 2 Pierrots; I don't do bars so this is only hearsay......
