I can't stand Angelina Jolie, either, and I don't think she is a very good actress.
My favorite is probably Laura Linney. I also really like Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon, Annette Bening and Nathalie Baye. For younger actresses I really like, but wouldn't put in those top categories yet: Nathalie Portman, Anne Hathaway. I like Renee Zellweger a lot, she is sort of in the middle, but doesn't seem to have done much lately--at least nothing I remember. I always thought Elizabeth Taylor was a horrible actress, I'm surprised someone named her. Her voice was like nails on a chalkboard, for one thing. |
Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore.
|
Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Renee Zellweger, Judy Dench, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are some of my favorites.
|
Just for who I see on Letterman, not for her movies, I like Julia Roberts. She is so funny.
I do enjoy Sandra Bullock movies. I think Rachel Weiss can really morph and be different in her movies. |
Reese Witherspoon
|
I also thought Penelope Cruz was excellent in VCB, suze. I like most of the actresses named here except for Angelina. She just bugs me for some reason.

That little Half Pint from Little House on the Prarie
|
Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson and Helen Mirren - pretty much in that order.
For escape/just laugh movies, Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts. It was a thrill to see Vanessa Redgrave act again. I'd love to see her on stage. I love Katharine Hepburn movies too. I'm not a fan of Angelina Jolie either, though I heard Salt is good so I'll probably go see it. LOVED Scarlett Johansson as a child actress, especially in Manny and Lo. |
I like Cate Blanchette, everything she is in is good and Penelope Cruz (I was lucky enough to meet her last week, I hope you guy don't mind if I mentioned that, but it was exciting) She was beautiful and sweet even without makeup.

Forgot to add to my post above that I cannot stand Angelina Jolie, and will not pay for a magazine with her face on the front, much less a movie! :D
|
Merrill Streep, Cate Blanchette (she is amazing) and Laura Linney,
|
Penelope Cruz came into your place, cafegoddess? I thought they were filming in Maui - make sure to let us know if you meet Johnny Depp!
I like Cate Blanchett and Kate Winslet. |
Yes she did, I was told they were filming in Kaneohe. Unfortunately, Johnny Depp's assistant called in his order for take out. :(
|
Thought of another one:
Glenn Close in Dangerous Liasons. Ouch! |
Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz together? Wow. Can't wait. What is the movie?
|
I love Angelina Jolie! Also Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchette, Penelope Cruz. And, as mentioned, Sandra Bullock in comedies.
Funny but Laura Linney bugs the crap out of me. Maybe I haven't seen the right role but she almost ruins Love Actually for me. |
I've never been a big fan of Laura's either.
Although she was smart enough to get involved in the Laramie Project |
I think they are filming another Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
The only movie I liked Sandra Bullock in was Speed. |
I think Love Actually stinks so Laura Linney couldn't ruin it for me. I really like her in some roles although she's beginning to get a little same-y for me.
Tilda Swinton is an amazing actress. And I think these were all named above, but I admire the work of: Julianne Moore, Penelope Cruz, Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench. Meryl is great in even the worst junk. I am posting on every thread. Could someone please stage an intervention. I have work to do and a house to clean. |
I've been watching a lot of TCM lateley (too hot to go outside), and I've become fascinated with Barbara Stanwyck. I also am intrigued by Gloria Graehme.
But my favorite actess of all time has to be Bette Davis. |
