yet another Montreal hotel question--sorry!
 

I think I've read every Montreal hotel thread written in the past 6 months but could still use some advice.<BR><BR>I usually stay at the Omni(my strong favorite), occasionally at the Intercontinental. Have also stayed at the Le Centre Sheraton and Renaissance. Last time the service at Intercontinental was so dismal I vowed not to return. The Omni is not available the days I want to travel (or is available, but only at a much higher rate than I want to pay--I've made so many calls, who remembers). <BR>My choices based on availablity, location and price are primarily Delta Montreal (the one on Blvd. Pres.Kennedy not Delta Centre-Ville on University) or The Queen Elizabeth.<BR>I'm strongly leaning toward Delta because of the various packages they're offering, somewhat better location for me, types of rooms (are higher priced "Signature rooms" worth the extra $ ?--only about $25 per night difference). Queen Elizabeth seems a bit too large for my taste, but I'd be glad to hear your experiences at either place<BR>BTW, I'm not really interested in the Hotel Vogue (too expensive) or the smaller hotels and auberges near Old Montreal. <BR>Thank you.<BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><BR><B R><BR><BR>

On the spur of the moment (which I have never before done), I purchased a last-minute package to Montreal. With the choice of only 3 hotels, I ended up choosing the Wyndam primarily based on its location and size. The Queen Elizabeth, per info provided, is somehow connected with a railway station. Two floors, with private entrance and amenities, are deemed "The Fairmont." While the Wyndam was just a 3-star, it seemed superior to a gigantic 4-star property featuring a "hotel within a hotel." Having never been to Montreal before, have I made a dreadful error?

The Wyndham is a good hotel, part of an office towers/shopping mall complex. It used to be managed by Meridien (Air France's hotel chain). Closer to the Old City than the QE. Access to metro.<BR><BR>Indeed, the QE is a large, convention-type and rather impersonal hotel.

Any comments on the Delta Montreal?<BR>Thanks

Marianna:<BR>The Delta is kind of landmark international style architecture hotel, located at the southern edge of downtown. Revolving restaurant on top where the view is rather nice. Located between the downtown core and the Old City (10 min walk to each). Connects with an office tower where the Stock Exchange is located. Nice bar. Popular for Chamber of Commerce luncheons. Direct access to metro.<BR><BR>The Delta has changed operators many times. It started out as a Hyatt in the 1970s, then Gouverneurs in the 80s then Radisson in the 90s, and now Delta. <BR>Bottom line: Middle-of-the-road big hotel. When inside, you could think that you are in Dallas, Chicago, St-Louis, Detroit, Pittsburgh, etc. (not that there is any wrong with that).

Louis, Thank you but I think you are referring to the Delta Centre-Ville which is on University--This is the Delta Montreal on Pres. Kennedy, near Sherbrooke.<BR>I've seen the Delta you're referring to on previous trips (stayed nearby at the Intercontinental)and noticed that the name seem to keep changing!<BR><BR>The Delta Montreal seems to have a higher star rating every place I've looked (3 vs 4).

Sorry about that. The Delta on Pres. Kennedy is an hotel built in 1980s. Has always been a Delta. Near McGill University campus. Close to metro (Place des arts or McGill). 15 mins walk to old city. 5 min. walk to Place Ville-Marie.<BR>Rather nice lobby. I've seen a room there once. Standard size and tastefuly decorated. I've had lunch there many times. Quite good.<BR>A notch below the Omni and Intercontinental in terms of "prestige", but still quite nice.

Thank you, Louis. I guess that's what I expected. I will still check back to see if anything opens up at the Omni, but Rennaisance and Delta Montreal both have good package deals (including Museum admissions) at a good rate, so at least if I'm not staying at my first choice , the place I end up at will be OK , and the price differential plus extras should make it up to me.<BR> <BR>If anyone else has additional comments or experiences, please add to this as I won't be travelling for several weeks

I got a great deal at hoteldiscounts.com for the Vogue for 3 nights.I only am paying $109 a night.
