Yarmouth & Acadian shores, Annapolis Royal, Grand Pree on bicycles

My husband and I are going to Nova Scotia the first week in September. He is a pilot and we are taking our bikes. we want to travel roughly from Church Point throu Annapolis Royal and go up to Grand Pree near Wolfville.
I want to do about 50 miles per day and see the historic places along the way including Port Royal, Melanson settlement, Annapolis Royal historic sites, then on to Grand Pree and a few other sights too.
Is this reasonable to do in a week with that kind of bike mileage? We have hybrids, touring bikes and plan to stay at B&Bs ang the way.
Would we be better off flying to Yarmouth, ride around there for a day, fly to Digby, travel around there and Annolis royal for a couple of days, and then fly to Kings County airport near Wolfeville? What do you recommend for planning bike routes? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I'm interested in the same kind of info. I'm just beginning to look into Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island or anywhere in Eastern Canada that someone would recommend for sightseeing, scenery, and bicycling, but we would be going in July or August--very soon. I'm recovering from a bad bike accident but feel I could handle some bicycling if it wasn't TOO strenuous--meaning not lots of hills and prefer little to no traffic. Thanks!

Your best bet for biking in Southwest Nova is to stick to the old highways (Lighthouse Route # 3 along the south shore, and/or the Evangeline Trail #1 in the Annapolis Valley). Unfortunately the only airport for commercial flights is in Halifax. Or, you could fly to St. John, New Brunswick and take a ferry from there to Digby, Nova Scotia, which is only 1 one hour car drive to Yarmouth (on the main highway # 101).

You could honestly spend the 5 days just in Yarmouth, Shelburne and Digby counties in the southwest, as there is so much to do and see! Go to http://www.yarmouthandacadianshores.com for complete information!

dsfrenchie,

We are very excited about the possibility that you and your husband will be visiting the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores region as well as the rest of southwest Nova Scotia this September!

Even though BWB37F had a great response to your ask of our region, I will follow-up by saying that if you would like assistance in planning your visit, or would like more information, you can speak directly to a representative from our local visitor information centre by calling (902)742-6639.

Also, you can access our 'Cycling Route' brochure online! This will give you an idea of what routes are available. Plus additional details about each individual route are included within the brochure. http://yarmouthandacadianshores.com/...ng-yas-eng.pdf

Hope to see you in September!

We are in NS now, went to Grand Pre first after flying into Halifax. The Historic Site has a GREAT movie to introduce you to the Acadiens and the Annapolis Valley, and we had a great lunch at the Winery. Wolfville was cute, but I wasn't overwhelmed, although nearby Halls Harbor is charming, and awesome tide change. Great Lobster too. We are in Annapolis Royal right now and it is very historic, will spend two days here.

Thanks for your tips. My husband is a pilot and we have a cessna skyhawk we plan on flying into Digby. My hope was to bike from inn to inn but the distances seem to be rather long to do all we want within a week so the current thought is to drive then rent bikes a couple days. I will also be sure to call the visitor center. Thanks too for the tip on Wolfeville.
