Winnipeg hotel - Delta or Fairmont?

I'm going to Winnipeg for a meeting, where I'm staying at the Delta. I decided to stay the weekend and am now trying to decide whether I should just stay my entire time at the Delta, or move over to the Fairmont on my own dime. I'm able to get a rate at the Fairmont that is incredibly cheap.

During the time I'm at the Delta, I will be with colleagues, so being in the vicinity of the convention center doesn't bother me much. However, since I'm staying the weekend, I'm wary about being near convention centers alone (in my previous experiences, they are often in the most sketchiest of neighborhoods).

I think I may have answered my own question, but was wondering if anyone had any experiences staying in either hotel? Yes, I have checked Trip Advisor, and the reviews have averaged out to be neutral. Is there any reason I should be wary of the cheap prices being offered at the Fairmont?

Thanks for any help!

Fairmont has really good deals from time to time, and I always try to take advantage of them. The rooms are somewhat dated, but they are always nicer than Delta (whose rooms are also often dated).

Thank you delacour. I will then definitely take advantage of the prices at the Fairmont for my last night there!

Well, just to update this thread with regards to where I was going to stay in Winnipeg on my last night...

I ended up staying at the Delta. In the end , I decided it made no sense for me to move over to the Fairmont. I did like that the Fairmont was very close to the Fringe Festival, but I would have wasted too much time moving hotels.

The Delta wasn't so bad in the end. My room was clean, everyone was very pleasant and helpful, and I couldn't get over the fact that most everything in the city closed by 5pm. The Forks was indeed opened until 9pm every night I was here, so it was certainly the place to go.

I will put out a more detailed trip report at a later time. First, I gotta pack up and get ready to go home!
