Wine in British Columbia

I'll be vacationing in Vancouver, Victoria and on Vancouver Island. Is ther much wine production in BC, if so, what should I be sure to try? Any winery recommendations would be appreciated, as well.

I'm not a BC wine expert, but untilyou hear from others who are ...

BC has some good wines, and the wine production is in the Okanagon Valley, in the Penticton, Kelowna area.

I once bought some wine from the Oliver winery (to give to a friend named Oliver) and drank a bottle myself, and was pleased.

BAK

There are some newer wineries on Van. Isl around Duncan. We visited them a couple of years ago and they were great! Good wine and lots of samples. Enjoy.

Mission Hill winery in Kelowna produced a Grand Reserve Chardonnay a few years ago the was judged the best in the world.
Many of the best wines in the Okanagon are Germanic Whites. Gehringer Brothers, Mission Hill, Quails Gate, Wild Goose all produce excellent whites and reds.
Enjoy.
Mandy

BC Wines are my favourite, not just because I live here but because the outstanding Reisling and Gewurtztraminer we produce goes so well with the spicey food i eat.As mentioned the best Wines are usually German-style whites, although the Pinot Gris is excellent as well and the ubiquitous Chards are fine.
Here are some links to 'whet your appetite'.
http://www.venturischulze.com/ an innovative Vancouver Island winery often 'sold out to the walls', not cheap!
http://www.bcwine.com/ general info
http://www.winegrowers.bc.ca/ lots of hidden gems
http://www.canwine.com/ for links
The few wineries on Vancouver Island are very small places that produce some interesting product, but the real action is in the Okanagan Valley as mentioned.
http://www.marquis-wines.com/ a place to buy some local product in Vancouver not my favourite though.
http://www.edgemontwines.bc.ca/ a nice little place pleasant service and fair selection.
http://www.winesnw.com/bctastefind.html a list of some BC Winesellers.

I be remiss unless I pointed out that BC produces a number of very fine Ice Wines.
We have yet to reach the rarified heights of Ontario but what we produce is a quality product.
Available wherever, etc., etc...
