I thought it might be a previous old poster. Hmmm..

Goodk1 you don't happen to remember 'Just Mary' books? Or how about Maggie Muggins?

Trickie, our Punkinhead was a very lovable teddy bear.
And he was always in the Santa Claus Parade.

It was so weird to see "punkinhead" in this title. When I was a little girl my Mom used to call me punkinhead and I never knew where this came from. I thought she made it up.

Maggie Muggins - still remember her skipping through the garden to the gazebo. And Mr. McGarrity - but what was the theme song?? Also Chez Helene, even a little Howdy Doody - but since we didn't get a TV until Dad decided they weren't a passing fad, I wasn't a regular TV watcher until the 60's. Just caught the occasional show at friend's houses. I do remember listening to radio broadcasts of the Lone Ranger - I believe it was on Sunday?? I didn't have any "Just Mary" books, unfortunately - we had lots of High Roads to Reading textbooks in the house. I guess they were discontinued school copies.

So it wasn't an Eddie Murphy character?

No, originally it was a little stuffed bear, and not stuffed like today's soft toys, it was quite hard actually. I think it's eyes were the kind that were stuck in on long pins - a nightmare by today's standards for kid's toys.

Goodk1, Oh what memories. I do remember Mr. McGarrity, but I could not tell you the theme song.
And I do remember listening to the Lone Ranger on the radio..
I was very lucky... my parents bought a TV when I was about 8. I think Howdy Doody was my favourite show.

LSky , no not anything to do with Eddie Murphy. You had to live in the Toronto area to know our sweet, lovable Punkinhead.

I grew up in Saskatchewan, so Punkinhead was probably available through the Eaton's catalogue. Mom's gone now, so that part of his provenance is lost, unless Dad remembers.

As to Maggie Muggins, I think the song might have been something like "Oh, she is my dear and darling one, her eyes they sparkle like the sun" - however that was a song sung by Sean Connery in Darby O'Gill and the Little People, so I may have muddled the two up. That movie made a huge impression on me - those banshees!! At least the Maggie Muggins song was in some way similar, I think.

I not only remember Punkinhead, but still have my rubber punkinhead doll. As a teen, he was my door stop, as an adult, he has hid many treasures for me.
He had always been a part of my life and always will be.
