Whistler Ski Area - Added Ideas??

This is the least-informed I’ve ever been in reaching out to Fodorites, so please forgive me! My boyfriend of 2 years and his kids (ages 17-27) are planning a ski trip to Whistler in Feb. This is a big event, as it’ll probably their last ‘family’ vacation before marriages and college lead everyone in separate directions.

I’d love to get a special Christmas gift – related to their destination - that might make it even more memorable.

Devout ski buffs, I know they’ll want to maximize time on the slopes. But is there anything else as an added ‘bonus’ at Whistler to make the trip even more unique?

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated – thanks in advance!

many things to do at whistler area.they have a nice tube hill, almost a great as silver mt,you have a carpet ride up the slope instead of the tube pulley system, but just as much fun.,and I think you are timed There is mushing and snowmobling at cougar mt,a bus takes you from the village, there is the zip line. But usually just snowboarding/skiing and hanging out are more than enough.lots of music and activities in the village itself.Feb is a busy time with so many spring breaks.they will love it

Hi there -

Are your boyfriend and his kids big skiiers? Do they love finding untracked powder when they're on the hill? If the answer is yes, then consider getting them getting a first tracks package.

Here's the link (sorry don't know how to do the tiny url thing):

They'll enjoy a buffet breakfast and then be on the hill before anyone else. I've always wanted to do this as I'm sure it's spectacular!

Excellent suggestions - thanks!!

The Fresh Tracks/b'fast idea is very unique, and one this group would LOVE!

Once again, this site and the people who post are invaluable - love you all!

Another thought, although more expensive would be powder Mountain cat skiing. www.powdermountaincatskiing.com It is about $500 per person for a full day, but except for heli skiing, it is pretty much the ultimate day trip for serious skiers. Also, if you are planning any special dinners out, you should book in advance, as the restaurants are very busy all winter. Araxi already has over 200 booked for Christmas dinner. A night time sleigh ride on Blackcomb is pretty cool too. Cheers, Al

Cheribob -

Enjoy Whistler!

DH and I were there last weekend for Cornucopia (food and wine fest). Gorgeous weather - Saturday was actually sunny!!

We're back in March '08 for skiing -we have a timeshare and go every year.

Al - thanks for the catskiing link -we're thinking of trying that out of Panorama this year!
