Whistler, side trips?
 

My family and I are spending 10 days in Whistler next January. My 75 year old mother is coming along. She does not skie.
Does anybody know if there is any day trip to any place near Whistler? What does the city offer to a non-skier?
Any suggestions will be more than welcome.

Whistler offers a lot of (expensive) shopping and restaurants, as well as non-skiing winter activities, like snowshoeing, snow-tubing, snowmobiling, etc. However, 10 days in Whistler for somebody that doesn't ski might be several days too many. In this case, I'd almost suggest splitting up that time in Vancouver, where there are more things for the non-skier.

Keep in mind that Whistler is not a city, but more of a ski resort. IF your mother does not do outdoor sports, then shopping and eating are about the only activities. I agree that 10 days would be too long for someone who doesn't ski. One or two days is enough for me. Just long enough to look in all the shops.
Vancouver would be a good destination, but a long way for a day trip. Especially if you wanted to do it more than once.

sorry but i agree that 10 days is a very long time. you can only do so much sitting around and reading. has she been to victoria, vancouver or one of the islands before. i'd consider leaving "my" family up in whistler and taking mom to another location for 2-3 nights in the middle of the 10 days.

You can buy a Whistler gondola pass and go much of the way up the mountain, where she can get great views (weather permitting!) from the Roundhouse Lodge. The skiers could have lunch with her at the various cafeterias and restaurants there.

Others are right though, you could spend a few days doing the above, as well as shopping and eating, but it will get old soon. Plan a few days in Vancouver. I know there are a number of tours out of Vancouver that head toward Whistler, but I wonder if there are any tours from Whistler that go to Vancouver?
