Whistler in the Summer
 

Hello all:
I will be taking my two grandchildren (ages 6 and 9) to Whistler for a month this summer. I have two questions:

1. Is it better to fly into Seattle or Vancouver? In case it is relevant, I will be renting a car for 30 days.
2. Any recommendations for nice condo complexes (with pool) in either the upper or lower villages?

it would probably be less expensive to fly into seattle if you are coming from anywhere in the usa. i also imagine that car rental may be less expensive at SEA Tac than in vancouver

I live in Vancouver and spend summers in Whistler with my kids. I can’t imagine you will save enough by flying to Seattle to make it worth adding a 3 hour drive to Vancouver with two kids to your day. The three hours is without lineups at the border. You have another 2 hours of driving from Vancouver to Whistler. It would make for a long day and possibly require an overnight in Vancouver.
I would fly into YVR, pick up your car, and head straight to Whistler. If you are planning to overnight in Vancouver, pick up your car at a location other than the airport to save some money on the car rental.
A bit more info is needed about accommodation since there are so many opinions at so many price points. Are you looking for a condo with a kitchen? Hotel? How many bedrooms? Price range?

I'd fly into Vancouver for the reasons mentioned before, plus...

1. Vancouver is a delightful place to spend at least one day, preferably more on your way to/from.

The subway, skytrain, seabus, aguabus, and frequent bus is by far the easiest way to get around. If you stay downtown almost everything is within walking distance if you like walking. Fly in, take the skytrain from the airport to your hotel, and rent your car when leaving Vancouver.

2. Although it's done all the time, you will avoid the hassle (and potential expense) of taking a rental car across the border.

Many condominiums and hotels in Whistler have pools, but not nearly as many as in some cities, especially in the south or southwest. But if a place you're considering doesn't have a pool, the municipality has an excellent indoor public pool and there are several lakes in Whistler that are popular for swimming ... one of them, Lost Lake, is close to the upper village.

Sunuplady, nothing to add really except to tell you how lucky you are. I am here right now for the first time. Whistler is stunning! I wish I was staying longer than a week. You might
consider spending a couple of days in Vancouver as well. My goodness, it is so pretty also.
