Whistler from Vancouver overnight help please!

We are from the UK, staying in Vancouver for a week end of May then taking the Whistler Mountaineer train tour for a one night (June) stay in Whistler before our cruise up to Alaska. Question is.. where should we stay in Whistler? I am slightly disabled so cant walk long distances but we do like being where things are happening but as we only have one night to experience the best of Whistler.. what and where should it be?? Hope you can help..

I'm sorry I can't really recommend a place to stay. But I did want to point out that Whistler is not a real town, but more of a ski resort. It's sort of a planned small town full of restaurants and ski shops. SO, if you make sure you are within the actual Whistler town centre, you will be able to walk all around the centre. There are no cars allowed. SO, that is another reason to stay right in the village. There are many condo buildings all around, but you'd have to drive to the village, and leave your car at the parking lot.

You can email or call them and get an answer directly - I would think you want to be in the Whistler Village but they will be able to tell you for sure.

tt- what does that mean???

tt (usually seen as ttt) means "to the top" - as in, you're just replying to the message so that it gets placed back at the top of the forum, so more people will see it.

We've only been to Whistler once, as part of a tour, but as we are not into skiing we would not go back. We were in our early 70s and surely the oldest people in town...the rest were teenagers or early 20s. Once you have seen all of the shops (fairly closely situated) and had something to eat, it's over.

If you would like to be near everything and can afford it, my suggestions are the Pan Pacific, the Sundial, or the Westin. They are all very nice places in the main village, right in front of the gondolas. Don't stay at Blackcomb or in Village North as you'll have too much walking. Enjoy.

Thanks for your help everyone, based on youve all said we have decided not to stop over in Whistler, there is a new train which goes up early morning to Whistler and then back in the afternoon so we dont need to stay over. At the moment we are investigating this. Thanks a bunch.

I think you will be happy with that decision. If you can take the train up to Whistler, look around at the shops and have a bite to eat, I think you'll be ready to take the train back.

Hi It's too bad your not staying the night. Whistler has something for everybody. I would stay at The Horstman house. It has 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments and is very reasonable. There are free buses that stop right in front of Horstman and take you into the village. My eldery in-laws with bad knees and hips had no problem touring around because the bus system is so good there. The train is a nice way to go but there are also several bus companies that do the sea to sky hwy several times a day. Try Premier properties or whistler/blackcomb.com for more info.

Its not that we dont want to stay the night. Its just that its going to cost extra when we already have accomodation booked in Vancouver. It would be lovely to stay in Whistler I am sure..
