Whistler for a week? Please help!
 

We are considering spending 6 or 7 nights in Whistler....in the Intrawest hotel (the village?)

Is it too long? We are going with our 2 kids (10 and 13) and would like to bike and hike but I am not sure if we can stay busy for that many days.

Seems like renting bikes starts at $30/day, the tennis coutrts are $30/hour and all other activities (horseback riding, water rafting, etc) starts about $60 a pop

What else can we do in the area?

Any advice?

I forgot to say we plan to go the first week in June!!!!!

One week is not too long, (unles you hit a patch of cool, showery weather), and you certainly could find lots of outdoorsy stuff to do and great places to eat and shop. But unless you've already done Vancouver and vicinity why not split your time up with at least a couple of days in Vancouver or maybe even to Victoria and Vancouver Island via the Horseshoe Bay ferry to Nanaimo? Or go the other way and drive north on #99 and check out the BC Interior.

I have never been in the area and the trip is mainly because we have this new Intrawest membership and that is one of their great clubs...plus the pictures I've seen ar gorgeous!

Are these day trips that you are suggesting?

Are here some websites that could help me plan early summer activities?

Vancouver trips could easily be day trips as the drive from Whistler to Vancouver is just over 2 hours each way. The drive itself is grogeous and will not bore you even on a third drive in a week. And days are pretty long there with it not getting dark till just before 10PM. I would very strongly reccomend at least one or two extended days in Vancouver because it's a huge venue with lots of urban and outdoors type things like the Science Centre, Gastown and terrific beaches and parks.

Other sidetrips north can take you to Lilloet and Cache Crek/Ashcroft in a semi-desert area. I would reccomend that for sightseeing only because there's not a lot of formal activities there other than some Dude Ranches.

I think if you go to www.HelloBC.com you can get some pretty good information and anyhow, while you're in Whistler you can get more info on side trips. Frankly with all the potential sidetrips one week is barely enough. the only thing to worry about is the notoriously fickle June weather. The odds are that it will be sunny and warm but it's not guaranteed by any means.

i don't think you'd be bored but it is a very expensive area so bring lots of cash. a day trip down to stanley park and maybe one other location in vancouver would be fun.

WhistlerAl....what kinds of things can we do in Whistler without spending a ton of cash?...I went to the website you mentioned and everything seems to cost.....we have been going to another Intrawest club for 5 years and so many things are part of the rental (bikes, tennis, surf boards, kayaks etc)......

How much do I budget for activities? It looks like over $200 a day?

Please give me more tips to see if we do Whistler for 6 days or just 2!

Other than hiking, you will have to spend some money, but renting bikes, taking the gondola to the top of the mountains, renting a canoe,and going to the pool all are pretty reasonably priced. Cheers, Al
