Where to stay Jasper / Banff?

We are deciding between staying at Becker's Chalets and Overlander Mountain Lodge near Jasper in early August.

We are also planning to stay at Paradise Lodge in Lake Louise.

Any recommendations, experiences and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Why don't you just go to Wisconsin??? The trees/lakes/scenery are just as nice as Canada--and it's much closer. Write if you need more info.

Kristin:

You have eiher NEVER been to Banff/Lake Louise/Jasper, you are blind, or very biased.

There is no comparison between Wisconsin and that area of Canada. I have seen them BOTH. Banff/Lake Louise wins hands down for scenery. NOT even close. I am not sure that I would go to Jasper unless I particularly wanted to visit the ice fields. The scenery is nicer around Banff/Lake Louise.

I've stayed at Paradise Lodge & Beckers
Chalets and I can heartily recommend both. No need to look any further. You best make your reservations soon,
both are very popular.

The Parkway between Banff and Jasper is
one of the most beautiful drives I have
ever experienced and something everyone should do at least once in their lifetime. We stayed at the Rimrock Resort in Banff and it was absolutely beautiful, great location! In Jasper we stayed at the Jasper Park Lodge, a wonderful place with lots of moose on the property.

We were in Canada about 5 years ago and stayed at Chateau Lake Louise and The Post Hotel. I would highly recommend both of these places. The view from Chateau Lake Louise is awe-inspiring.The Post Hotel doesn't have the same kind of views, but was charming. We really enjoyed the main dining rooms in both hotels.

If you will be near Emerald Lake, please try to get into the Emerald Lake Lodge. It's absolutely beautiful and secluded and the dining is out of this world.

Karyn, be careful next time you spot any cats at Jasper Park Lodge; you may think they are cougars! You see, all those moose you saw,....it was actually common and plentyful elk! Want to see MOOSE? Go kayaking or hike along Maligne Lake; good area to spot some. Another great place for moose is along the Yellowhead Highway, just OUT from Jasper Nat. Park, on the way down to Robson Provincial Park, in B.C. I spend summers in the canadian Rockies - as a tour guide from Spain! - and although moose are elusive, shy creautures, in these areas I have often managed to spot some. But CERTAINLY NOT in Jasper Park Lodge!

Beckers is where I got married and it's great. As for Lake Louise I've also stayed in the chateau and at the Post Hotel. I like the Post Hotel better. Strangely the drive back from Jasper is more beautiful than the drive to Jasper even though it's the same highway but the direction you travel makes all the difference. The interpretive centre at the ice-fields is new (well within the last 2 years) and is worth a quick look. Lots of washrooms and you'll likely need one by then. Gift shop as well so check it out. Also don't miss Athabasca Falls and Sunwapta Falls on the way to Jasper.
