Where to stay in Okanagan

Can anyone recommend good lodgings in the Okanagan area. We have around $CA100/room/night to spend. Is the north or the south the nicest area? We are not into golf but like nature and being near water. Is there a direct train from Whistler to this area?

personally, i like vernon. it is not as busy as kelowna or penticton. two lakes to choose from and nice hikes around the area. fun waterpark close by too. can't recommend any lodging sorry.
only hotel i've stayed at in kelowna was the sandman and it was fine. close to many restaurants, shopping mall, etc. you might want to check places such as westbank or peachland. they are nice (between kelowna & penticton)

I don't think there are passenger trains out of Whistler anymore. They were losing too much money. check with BC Rail. And no there never was service to the Okanagan.
Kelowna is very busy in the summer.

I highly recommend staying in Penticton. There are several places to stay within your budget.Penticton is flanked by two lakes, Skaha at the south and Okanagan to the north. You can tube down a cannal that connects the two lakes, takes about an hour and is loads of fun. It is rumoured that Glen Anderson lost his Stanley cup ring in the cannal, but I think that's an urban legend. ( although people still look for it) If water is what you are interested in, Penticton is the place for you! I call Penticton "Canada's best kept secret". And that's coming from a New Brunswicker! Summer in Penticton is very HOT. Temps can hover in the 40's for days on end. It's great!

I agree with Tammy. Although Penticton doesn't have the urban sophistication of Kelowna it does have better weather and more and less crowded beaches. It also has a very nice Casino, (as does Kelowna), and a wide variety of good and reasonable accomodation - at least as reasonable as any of the other Okanogan cities.

i also agree, PENTICTON!! stayed at the Spanish Villa, across the street from the beach, paid 69.00 per night, with a kitchen and an indoor pool.
