where to go to "just get away"

My husband and I (in our late 20's) want a relaxing vacation during the week of christmas. Where can we go for relaxing but opt for fun stuff if we choose? Suggestions on where to stay and what to do are appreciated. We would like to stay on a modest budget but don't want to skimp. We don't ski.

Thanks.

I always ask this question - where are you coming from? Are you planning to fly somewhere or drive?

What's a modest budget for you? $150/day or $400/day?

Yeah, it would depend on where you're coming from. Canada offers tonnes of variety. We're a Christmas country and you'll find stuff allover. 20 something, there's here in Ottawa, longest skating rink in the world with beaver tails and hot chocolate located allover (hopefully it'll be open this year). Nice to see the Parliament buildings lit up at night. Great Christmas shopping downtown, great bars at night if you don't mind all the Carleton and Ottawa U students. I love this city, and you might too... but it'll be COLD. You could try Quebec city aswell.

Thanks for the replies. We will be coming from Atlanta so we will fly. I don't know exactly how much we intend to spend. I was hoping to use priceline since I have had really good luck. I was hoping to spend about 2,000 total. We would plan to stay about 5 days, 4 nights or so.
